I'm adjusting some hubs starting with a Sram S30 race wheelset (not dissimilar to Zips). My concern is getting the ideal bearing preload so that, when under the the extra pressure from the quick releases, they spin as smoothly without resistance as possible without allowing for excessive wear or damage to the bearings.
I'm wondering if anyone can give me any advice on the best methodology to do this. At this point my procedure is to find the point where the hub is as tight as possible, while still allowing the wheels to spin freely when mounted in the dropouts. This unfortunately is a very time consuming (constant removal of wheels from bike, removal of qr from wheel and further hub adjustment) and seemingly imprecise determination of ideal load.
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.
