Not 30.9? I know there's lots of bikes running that size these days..

no, pegoretti aluminum - 31.0.

i have to think 30.9 + a beercan shim will work though.

The original was probably a WR Compositi. I can't figure out why people sell those Peg frames and don't include the seatpost.

A shim with existing seatpost, the aforementioned WR Compositi, or go custom.

Here are two custom titanium seatpost sources

Depending on your aesthetics there are a couple of white carbon 31.0mm WR Compositi seatposts on eBay right now, but they look like the 14mm setback models if you can live with that. Check with sellers, though.

And a couple of others, including a BBB 0 setback black alu:

I was going to mention Bold, but I see it's been done. So, I'll +1 it. Sweet looking seatpost in almost any size you need.

I have that WR on my 8:30 and it has hands down the worst head adjustment I have ever worked with, but when that's all there is...

I'd shim it personally.

what size did it end up being? The frame.

31mm seat posts are rather rare. I use a 30.9 FSA K-Force Light Road and the fit is snug and actually perfect for my 31 mm framed bike. I might have gotten lucky with tolerance stack-up going my way.

Aluminum can shim would add about .24 mm in diameter. I use alu cans to shim rifle scope rings to extend the MOA. Anyway....this is a lot.

Carbon paste would probably be a better shimming material but I'm no scientist.

yea, since i need zero setback, i think i'm going to buy a 30.9 thomson and see how the fit is, 0.1mm sure is not a lot of room to make up.

ColonelJLloyd

I wouldn't think shimming to increase .1 millimeter is possible.

If you are planning on shimming I would just go 27.2. Thicker more durable shim and lots of options. More comfortable as well

My plan was to shim with thin paper if my 30.9 fit loosely.

i like the carbon paste idea if it fits loosely actually. we'll see.

Aluminum foil and carbon paste should work.

In English units, 0.1mm is only 0.004". A sheet of 20lb copier paper is around 0.0025."

If you really want, they make 0.002" shim stock in a variety of materials. I have a sheet in brass. If you PM me a postal address, I'll send you a piece.

Besides USE, Problem Solvers and Kalloy also make a number of seatpost shims. Kalloy did have an aluminum shim for 27.2 to 31.0

Kalloy Seatpost Shim Ø27.2mm -> Ø31.0mm
Product Model:172819 EAN Code 4016538638208

That MOst seatpost (made by Selcof) looks like the ones Pinarello used on some of their frames.

I'm in the shim a 27.2 camp.
That's what I did for my responsorium.

A proper shim ensures there's full contact between post shim seatube so You have the best friction surface to prevent slipping

Are most modern aluminum frames like this or do builders often install a permanent shim like on lots of titanium frames? I'm curious to try modern aluminum.
