Hello.

Bike is 2006 Bianchi with 2006 campag centaur running gear.

53/39 gear set on board with 12-25 at rear.

Will the Centaur 10 Speed 12-30 Cassette fit this setup without any compromises to the reach mech and shifting?

I do acknowledge that i may need to buy another chain to suit - and that is OK.

Yes...had this on a demo Gunnar as soon as the cogset came out..just make sure chain is 'proper' length, not too long and certainly not too short.

Thanks OP.

Apologies on text / spelling. That was supposed to be rear mech (not reach mech).

Your thoughts on it's tooth profile - 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 24, 27,30 T?

Not sure what you mean by "thoughts". There isn't much you can do to change those gears. if you want a 12 for the high end and need a 30 for the low end, you'll like it fine. I have one I use when I head out into the mountains, it works fine and saves my fat arse.

I have one also. Sometimes I use the 24-27-30 from it with the 13-14-15-16-17-19-21 of a 13-29. Sometimes I use it as is, sometimes I just use the 13-29. With a 39-52 front on one bike, or a 30-42-52 on another bike. (both med cage RD's) Have also used the 21 (designed to follow a 19) -24-27-30 with a 14-15-16-17-18-19 from a junior 14-23 10's cassette. Mixing stuff up not ideal, shifting not perfect, but OK for one ride. Basically....when I'm on a trip and mountain ride, going down hill fast not important to me, but having a 16 tooth sometimes is.

Around here....usually ride a 39-52 with a 13-26. (13-14-15-16-17-18-19-21-23-26) My favorite combo. Don't get why B or C riders want a cassette starting with 11, or even 12 with a 52 or 53. You give up too much (16 or 18 tooth cog) for that fast down hill gear I think. Guess it depends on where you ride.

thanks guys

I am advised that I need a Campagnolo Medium Cage rear Derailleur to use this Cassette as the Standard Rear Derailleur is a Shorter Length on the cage, so will not shift correctly. Is this correct?

How do i know if my rear Derailleur is a medium or standard?

First off, if OP said it will work, I'd take that and run with it. He says it will shift with the proper chain length, it will shift. I run a 29 all the time without a problem. And unless you purposely bought a medium cage, it's a short/normal cage.

I run it with short cage, no problems. I do have a separate chain with one extra link for when I use it though.

55 mm = Short
72,5 mm = Med

Pulley to pulley center.

If you currently have a short cage, it will probably shift it OK. A med cage will do it better. Especially with a large difference in front teeth. 12-30 is 18 teeth difference, and 39-53 is 14 more....for total of 32 tooth difference. if I had a short cage....I would see how it works before I bought anything. But....if starting from scratch buying stuff.....would get a med cage.

Seeing 'campy 30t cog' has me rethinking an entire build. I have 10spd mongrel record/chorus on a bike, but with bigger cassette/compact crank could use this on the gravel bike.... Hello, slippery slope.

Hi all.

Just bought a campy compact crank to go with my 12-30 cassette.

I currently have 2 x rear mechs -

- medium cage

- short cage

Which rear mech shoudl i be installing to accommodate this setup?

50/34 compact, right?

50/34 and 12/30 = 34 ((50-34) 16 + (30-12) 18 = 34) Chain Wrap.
In theory:
Short cage rd (55mm cage) Max CW = 27.
Medium cage rd (72.5mm cage) Max CW = 36.
Long cage rd (89mm cage) Max CW = 39.

Since you already have the medium cage rd on hand, I definitely would recommend using it.
