Handmade frames, made by people I met who are now friends because we collaborated on making a wonder bike.

SRAM and Enve, because they do things a wee bit differently.

Panache, La Passione and Morvelo for making really nice kits that fit but don't quite fit in.

Gunwalls.

Long rides on dirt followed by local beer.

I applaud threads like this and your attitude behind starting them. Reflective of a life and an aspiration to the positive, I hope.

This is a great place, I am downcast when it gets commandeered by the smart alects as opposed to the smart and by the complainers as opposed to the achievers.

weisan-pal you help keep this place on an even keel that I could never have the patience or temperament to do. Thank you.

I'm not sure. After coming back from Colorado, I reached nirvana on a descent (ward to Lyons) that I'm not sure I'll top. I relive it over and over. Heaven. I mean, going up was fun work, but that descent with smooth roads, no cars, thermal changes from warm to cold to warm, rushing creek, boulders and pines.

No particular order:

* - Riding with friends that are "in the moment"
* - Leaving work and feeling the warmth of the sun (I don't miss the NE)
* - A quiet, strong, responsive bike. Weight doesn't matter.
* - X-country skiing during a snowfall. (OK, I miss the NE a little)
* - My, now long gone, VW GTI on a twisty mountain road.
* - Pond fishing for crappies on a muggy summer evening.
* - Hanging out on a San Diego beach with my family...on New Year's Eve.
* - A hard 70 mile group ride, even if I get dropped now and then.
* - Bourg d'Oisans, in the summer. Maybe I can catch lightning in a bottle, again w/some good friends.

- Italy

- Guilt-free pizza and beer after a long ride

- Hugs from my kids when I get home from a ride (and their subsequent exclamations of "grossss" when they feel how sweaty I am)

- Early morning, quiet ride with nothing but the sound of my tires crunching dirt as the fog lifts around me.

- That last little kicker of a climb I have to ride to get back to my house.

- The fine folks who contribute to the wonderful content on this forum (thanks weisan pal)

Ditto

Though I would phrase it the more "satisfying" of the two is climbing. Getting into a nice steady rhythm on the way up and then the reward, the thrill of the descent.

I like:

-screaming fast technical descents with tires on the bloody edge of traction.

-good scotch and a slow smoking cigar

-fresh made, good espresso

-cold beer on a hot day; after a hard bike ride. The kind that is on the cusp of freezing, fresh out of the cooler full of slushy ice and water.

There's so many more. I love life; and I mean that sincerely.

I enjoy the pursuit of performance even if my limitations keep me from getting there. The quest. Trying to get good at something

An aged Barbaresco, a fat Porterhouse, and a good Cuban cigar but I gave all that up.

One of my favorite tidbits of enjoyment is starting a day outdoors a few hours before dawn and seeing and listening to the world burst into life as the Sun rises above the horizon. Doesn't matter whether I'm in a duck blind, riding a bike, or hiking.

about minute 23 of keith jarrett's köln concert part I, when it builds and builds in strife, then settles in a few gentle, golden chords of reassurance and acceptance.

when i feel like all the energy and concern i've put into something, like the youth or a project, has actually come to a beautiful purpose, better than anything i could do alone.

being utterly, authentically spent, tunnel-vision-collapsing, at the end of a marathon, knowing i gave everything, every time.

the feeling of a top tube in my hand, the sound of my cleat snapping into place, the ker-chunk of a perfect shift into 'faster' cogs, the feeling of my mouth getting blown around by a wicked descent.

sharp knives.

sharp images taken by someone you just know grew up in a wet darkroom like you did, and still gets a rise out of watching an image emerge on silver-coated paper.

red wine on the side porch with my dad when he likes me and understands what i've been doing all these years.

the smell of tiger balm and gun oil and blade steel: my grandfather.

cold floors in a country house in january when i get up to put a fire in the furnace.

woodsmoke.

and my girls, the little one and my lady, just utter, constant joy and amazement at what riches i know.

we are the lucky ones, friends!

I love riding my bike and enjoy each and every ride.

I've had sports taken from me due to injury, and have to do a lot to stay on the road with all of the orthopedic problems that I have. I appreciate being able to ride each and every day. I never take it for granted.

I enjoy riding alone and being outdoors. I enjoy a small group ride or the companion of one friend, like on today's ride.

I like a whole lot of other stuff too (cycling clothing that works, Christmas, watching my kids grow up, my wife's laughter, and her big boobies).

Going to France and wondering why I'm there. Riding the second day and knowing why.

Supermarkets full of fresh food. I park in the back of my local market and cut through a short drive way on foot. This way I always get front row and it ends up being closest to the door. I also pass the dumpster and detoured a bit to toss something in. Absolutely shocked by how much food was in there. In some countries there would be riots for that stuff. So yeah I like living in the land of plenty.

The measured calm of a beautiful library room, with the smell of old books and the filtered light hitting an old oak library table and the book I'm plowing through--the quiet murmur of the librarians in the background, and the sense of peace--this is where I belong...
