This was my third time attending Cino. I thought the roads were in pretty decent shape, certainly better than last year – though I heard others say exactly the opposite. For whatever reason I had no climbing legs this year so even though I had lower gearing than last year I suffered much more any time the road turned upwards. It was great to see old friends and to make some new ones…..this is definitely my favorite ride of the year.

Hopefully Matt, Doc and some other Paceliners will add more pics.

Lunch on Saturday was at the same place as last year….a spectacular waterfall on private property.

Even some of the support vehicles are vintage.

Great pictures. I've thought about doing this for the past 3 years but something else has always come up. One of these years....

Sweet.
That '37 Hobbs is the nuts.
Thanks for sharing.

A lot of fabulous pics, but my personal fave is the bacon shot. And in a cast-iron skillet, no less.

Mmmm....bacon.

Lovely shots of what seems like a very nice ride.
Really like that dual use rear dropout on the Hobbs.

I don't understand that. In fact, I have a few questions about that bike.

What's with the axle slammed forward against the front of the d.o.?
Looks like a Vittoria Marguerita shifter, but where's the tension lever?
Aftermarket shifter for the chain mover?

Nice. Makes me want to convert my old ciocc back to toe straps and levers.

Great pics too, btw.

Cool. I need to do this someday. I think it is only about a day's drive away from me.

Looks like it is set up to use with the chain mover as is, and has a horizontal drop out for use as a single speed or with a flip-flop hub.

Thanks for the comments everyone. For those of you who said they would like to attend all I can say is go for it....you won't be disappointed. It's a brilliant way to spend a weekend and I'm always a bit sad when it's over with.

Hopefully Matt can provide some more insight, but the RD is an Osgear Super Champion that's been modified to work with the 4sp freewheel. The shifter has indents for the gears, sort of an early indexing.

Nice photos Choke. I only had my phone the first day for some pics, but I'm too lazy to get off the bike on the ascents and descents. Here is a link to what I have.

Byron- If I recall correctly, this is the third year you've ridden this on a fixed/single speed flip flop.

If I were to wear a hat, it would be off to you, sir!

Nice. But I guess I'd get kicked out or DQ'd - I'd want to ride it on my Hampsten Strada Bianca. Perfect roads for that bike...

Bet you were wishing you were on your green one, too!

Well, is not that you in the Bartoli hat? Full disclosure:

my first Cino was on fixed/fixed flip/flop
my second was with Simplex down tube shifters with 2 chainraings and 5 cogs
this year was fixed/free flip/flop

This year was the best setup. Up and down on fixed is tough on gravel. The old fashioned brake hoods are uncomfortable especially for those who do not like wearing gloves. And my Simplex shifters slipped under heavy load, and that sucked. My only change for next year will be a couple gear inches lower if I can still squeeze my rear tire between the chain stays.

Nice chatting with you at dinner. I'm going to watch the Gino Bartali documentary, "My Italian Secret" soon on Netflix.

Bet you were wishing you were on your green one, too!The Losa fits 32s (30mm actual) so it worked pretty well...I could definitely take the downhills faster than the last two years when I was on 28s. I may take my SB next year, as it sits at the moment all I'd have to do is switch pedals and it would easily pass the requirements. http://www.cinorider.com/the-bike-you-ride/
