"Captain’s Log — Stardate Sept. 8, 2016"
Fifty years ago today the first episode of Star Trek aired on NBC.

Thank you for countless hours of fun, laughter and entertainment.
Time to dig out the DVDs for another binge-watching event.

Though more of a TNG and DS9 fan myself, the original series paved the way...

Roddenberry was a visionary.

I showed my wife the picture posted here in the jersey thread of would you wear it. We want the Kirk and Spock jerseys for when we're riding our tandem but darn it thinkgeek no longer carries them!

I grew up with reruns of the original, then never missed an episode of TNG. In fact I grew a beard because of Commander Riker.

I have fond memories of seeing The Wrath of Khan in the theater when it was released. Everyone was teary-eyed at the end.

In 1999 Patrick Stewart had a guest appearance with the SF Symphony at Davies Symphony Hall. It was like a mini Spock convention in the audience. I loved every minute of it.

The original series was awesome but I wish Dr. Smith from Lost in Space made guest appearances to add to the brief moments of levity

I've always had the thought that the Gorn had a nasty cough.

That would be awesome! I would love to see a picture of the two of you hammering along on a tandem in your Trekkie jerseys and black tights. :)

I've always been a huge fan of the original series. I can't believe it only lasted 3 seasons and has become what it is today. Just goes to show that Roddenberry and the cast, directing and so on really struck a chord. It's still aired every Saturday night on one of my local over the air stations and I catch it when I can. Even though I've seen every episode plenty of times I still love watching it.
