My 15 year old Adidas soccer bag just bit it today....have backups in basement but looking for reco for cycling bag. Will use to keep stuff organized when traveling, primarily by car, to events, trail, etc.

Would like:

Numerous zipper pockets to stay organized...keys, wallet, phone, tools, food, etc.
A pocket that is crush resistant would be nice for sunglasses
Pocket that would fit helmet
Area to keep clean clothes away from sweaty ones
Shoe pocket
No preference backpack style vs 'bag'
Place to store bottles

Also trying to stay cheap so 50-75 range unless I am totally out of it..see many on line much higher $$

Thx!

A little more than your stated price range, but I just purchased this POC 90L this year after my Pearl Izumi bag of 20 years finally started falling apart. It 'can' be a backpack as it comes with built in shoulder straps (I stowed mine away in the available slots quite easily). It has one big main compartment and two zippered compartments (one on each end). It also comes with some cinch closure stuff sacks to help keep some things segregated inside. It has really great zippers which work very well. And the openings/zippered portions are made in such a way as to help prevent rain/moisture from getting in. It's also lined completely in all compartments to help prevent cross contamination from clean/dirty clothing. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's a bit too large. I should have gotten the 60L. Otherwise, it's a GREAT bag which should last 20 years, too.

I just got one of these. It's really nice for multi-day travel. The only down side is that you have to open the bag's clamshell design to get into the compartments on the top of the bag as there is no direct access. This is probably a great idea for air travel, but can be a pain at other times.

Hunt Ebay for em and you'll get a better deal, but I've had a couple of these for years and they're nearly indestructable.

You can get a TYR transition bag (backpack style, it won't make you a tri-nerd) that has tons of space that you need. Shoe and helmet compartments, etc. In that price range as well.

Couple more options:

I have the now discontinued Novara duffle and its outstanding. But no longer made. This one (https://www.rei.com/product/873998/timbuk2-race-duffel) by Timbuk2 looks nice.

This one (https://www.specialized.com/us/en/accessories/bags-tools/comp-duffel/104841) also looks good, and is on sale for $70 from Specialized.

I have the Ogio 8.0 bag (http://ogio.com/athletic/athletic-bags/new8-0) that I like a lot. I would consider the 9.0 next time to have the helmet in a pocket rather than external bungees. I do like the bagpack style straps.

I got mine on sale and felt the value was there given a sale price.

Have been using one of these since spring. I like the bag a lot. it holds everything from helmet to socks. I don't like to keep my shoes in it; mostly because they smell and I don't want the inside of the bag to get dirty. no affiliation- just a happy consumer

Another vote for Ogio! Great quality products, and the endurance line goes from i think 3.0 to 9.0 so they have something for every price range. The 9.0 is really nice, but if you do not need all the features, you can get a lower number with less features for a lesser pricepoint.

This is definitely one of the best bags out there. It has shoulder straps for when you need them but that stow away for hand or shoulder carry. The big thing is that the shape is just right for a helmet, shoes, clothing, bottles, other accessories, food, and so on. It's also bulletproof and can put up with anything.

I also have one of the Bontrager team bags which is totally organized around cycling and is a bit more compact, but overall has a bit less room inside -- just enough for kit, shoes, and helmet and a few energy bars. They are smaller and lighter duty but work well.

There are a thousand bags out there to consider. Check www.carryology.com for endless reviews, plus the EDCForum to look at bags and bag reviews. It's really about what you prefer.

Buddy of mine designs and makes these. High quality and very practical. Mine is ~15 years old and looks new.

Thanks for all the feedback. From a major procrastinator, helped me decide on a solid choice for an infrequent purchase...and justify to myself that a soccer gear bag no longer cuts it!

Pulled the trigger on the Ogio 9.0...has most of the features I wanted plus found on sale for $108.00, slightly over budget

http://ogio.com/endurance90

Appears to be a quality build, like a few features:

Expandable, vented pocket for wet clothing
External bottle holders are actually zip pockets that can be used for other things
Helmet net can be stored in bag when not in use
Many pockets!

Only nit is backpack straps only...am used to a single strap ...would nice to have option

I've got the 9.0. Nice bag. Holds lots of stuff and the silver lining helps keep all your black stuff at least a little more visible.

The 9.0 (at least mine) has the helmet strap/cover on the outside too.

I've only had 2 gear bags in the last 30 yeard. The other one was a 20+ year old Specialized bag. That one was nice too and a buddy is still using it. The black on black on black made finding arm and knee warmers 'interesting' tho.

Though you already purchased a bag I just recently recieved this:
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/q759/dbwickham/5.11%20Tactical%20Patrol%20Ready%20Bag_zpsuv80vapq .jpg (http://s1357.photobucket.com/user/dbwickham/media/5.11%20Tactical%20Patrol%20Ready%20Bag_zpsuv80vapq .jpg.html)
5.11 Tactical Patrol Ready bag. $50. No mesh pockets and my shoes go in the main compartment with my kit and helmet (also wind vest and rain jacket). Plenty of pockets for seperating my food/snack, first aid, cold weather accessories, water bottles and best are the velcro straps to hold a full size tire pump. I have everything I need in a single bag that is easy to grab and go.
