Just bought myself a single shot slug gun with a rifled barrel. I hear of some guys going beyond 100 yards accurately with the right ammo. Anyone here have any experience with these crazy rifles? Thanks! :)

Bow and rifle, but never black powder and never slug. Just never gone there. Looks like fun though!

Sure does! We have limits on what we can use during deer season. Been using a crossbow, but that's only a 20-25 yard shot. Been reading reviews of guys shooting sabots and the range on these things is great.

Accutips to 150 yards is my limit because they start to tumble.

At 100 yards I can print 2 inch groups with my HR Ulra 20g. Crazy. I cannot ever remember missing a deer with it.

Did a 40 miler and then went to the range with the LMT 308 MWS and DD M4a1.

Nothing to add - just funny to see a hunting discussion started from a member named veggieburger!!

Buddy of mine is a bow hunter. Venison every year.

Last year he got a bear permit in Maine and bagged a 350# black bear with 1 shot

I don't hunt any more. Haven't is almost 40 years. But back then it was slugs.

Modern black powder stuff is very accurate.

My favorite veggieburgers are generally mixed with pork and venison.

...I used to make the carbon parts for these but for some reason they never let me play with the gun. Go figure!

Interesting project but wasn't for me in the end. Bikes are much happier and healthier!

Sabots in muzzy or shotgun?

My Muzzy is good to 250 with 150gr of powder (outch) but I keep it to 200 yards..

The 20 gauge Accutips are good to 150.

My 7mm Wby is good to 600+ yards.

I am retiring my Dad's Remington 1100 (Used Winchester Supreme Partition Sabots and got decent accuracy out of it) I am Going to upgrade into a Savage 220F 20 Gauge Slug gun. Couple of friends have them and are point blank at 164 yards. My hunting partner is using 12 Gauge Sabots in a Browning Slug gun and is pleased. FOr a Muzzle Loader for Price,Performance and Cleaning CVA Accura in any of their configurations are a hot set up. Knight Long Range hunter firing Sabots is a great rifle too though pricey.

It is amazing. Furthest I have shot it is 250 but supposedly good for well beyond.

I considered going to a Savage 220F.

It gets to be just another N = 1 in another sport.

I sold a couple rifles and am looking to get an O/U for Sporting Clays.

Went pheasant hunting in SD for the first time last fall at Douple P ranch. Great guides & birds. Let me know where you go! Love to get personal recommendations.

Cheers,
JC

Started hunting with a muzzleloader a few years ago. I typically use Barnes boat tail (spit fire mz 245g). It's fairly accurate to 150-200 yards. But I hunt with iron sights so I don't go nearly that far.

Armor piercing, fin stabilized, discarding sabot. Used to shoot these out of a big smoothbore.
