Knee pain on the up-stroke???

I have a question for the cyber docs here. What could cause knee pain from stepping backward? After a really tough weekend of training, I'm getting some intermittent knee pain when stepping backward and occasionally on a stair. Otherwise I feel fine. I can do Heidens and other leg exercises with knee bends with no problem, but if I shuffle back when boxing, Filipino footwork drills, or the up-stroke in the pedal cycle it occasionally stabs. Almost feels like it's in or around the knee cap. Any thoughts out there?
