Building a really sweet Conago master Piu for a forum member..beautiful, red..10s ERGO with Record 11s rear der(2009-2014 design)..and it works famously and perfectly w/o any mods..just for info for you gents that are still riding 10s but may need a derailleur..:o

yup. same with 9-sp stuff. my zanconato runs campy 9-sp and the RD was toast. replaced with athena-11 unit and wiz-bang, perfect shifting.

it should also go without saying, but i also have an 11-sp RD working flawlessly on my friction shifted 9-sp bike :hello:

Both my teammates have ergo 11 shifters & 11 RD but run 10 spd shimano cassette in the back -- they just block out the top gear with upper limit screw. Works so well that I am going to do the same thing.

Why not just use a 11 speed shimano cassete if you already got the 11 speed shifters anyways.

they probably have 10-sp only wheels. that's the only semi-logical reason to do this.

Or maybe the RD is shimano?

We all prefer to run 10 spd. Cassettes & chains are much cheaper & frankly in Virginia Beach we don't miss that 11th gear.

So then why not just keep the 10 speed stuff. The mental gymnastics on that hurt my brain.

Potato, there is a year in specific for that rd??? Or any 11 rd will do?

Different strokes I guess.

The guys like the feel of the new 11 spd levers vice the old 10 spd. I still have the old ten & am running a 9 spd RD on my back-up bike -- but then again I am the retro curmudgeon of the group.

Cheers, Bob

centaur is new shape and 10 speed, and cheaper than anything 11.

OP: What about running an 11sp cassette and shifters with a 10sp Record rear der?

pre 2015 shifters should work with 10 sp rear der, new stuff prob wont

It looks like a 2013..but any Campag 11s rear der will work fine with 10s ERGO..not sure about the redesigned 2015/6 ones but I 'suspect' they will too. I just don't have the shop around me to test the 2015/6 rear der inter-compatibility..

Undershifts a great deal making it unusable. There are some 'tricks' to making it move more per shift..explained here previously. Really hard to explain.

But my point is 10s Record/Chorus stuff last made 7 years ago..rear ders wear out..if ya need a new rear der and have 10s ERGO, ..yes, you can just get a 'modern' 2009/2014 rear der and it'll work groovy.

This has me thinking.... and I know this has probably been talked about before, but can you run a Shimano 11 speed cassette with a 11 speed Record RD? Or is the spacing so different that they wouldn't be interchangeable.

Yes. I do that and notice no difference in shifting. Record 11 Shifters>Record 11 Rr Der>DA 11s cassette.

Thanks!!!

One last stupid question - I'm assuming the only other thing you have to do is switch out the rear hub from Campagnolo to Shimano, right?

Don't follow. If you've got a campy hub already, why would you want to switch to Shimano to run with Campy shifters and derailleur? I've got two sets of wheels, one is Campy 11s and the other is Shimano 11s. Both work identically for me.

Use any 11s chain altho I like Campag and shimano..use IRD or KMC links second connection after you take it off to clean.

If ya gotta/wanna run a shimano 11s cogset on yer otherwise Campag 11s, yes.

Best wheels ever. Impeccable attention to detail on the build. No gold chain needed.

If I'm lucky enough to find a frame like that - I may want to talk with you about building me something like that. That's the type of bike that you never let go of.
