They wouldn't have fallen very far if they went to the outside - there were some spikes down there on which they could have impaled themselves.

Edit: my mistake, this wasn't in China.

And folks wonder why things can be built so inexpensively in China - almost no safety regulations and almost no environmental regulations.

Did you notice the loose bricks at the edge? You can be 100% sure that every now and then a good wind gust knocks one or two over the edge. Bummer if you happen to walking by at the wrong time...

My mistake - I thought I saw somewhere that it was in China and that it was some Romanians tourists who were visiting.

In that case I take back what I said about China and apply it to Romania.

Let's assume for a minute that I would be insane enough to climb that thing (and I'm not, and if I did my knees would be knocking so hard by that time I got to the top I'd be paralyzed). I doubt I'd take a unicycle or any oranges. Instead, I'd take a stack of scrap paper and build some paper airplanes and toss them into the wind.

Then I'd set up one of these guys, light it, and watch if float off into the sunset.

Here's another good spot for that sort of thing:

Angel's Landing in Zion.
