Downtime shifter and mtn shifter mashup

Before I cable this frankenstein thing up, is there any reason why it wouldn't work? It'll be shifting an old shimano DX rear derailleur (7 speed I think).

I don't see why not, friction is forgiving. I really love these Frankenstein components haha

I am sure you already got this figured out...make sure it's going in the direction you wanted - both ways.

where did you get the black piece? is there a cheaper alternative to paul?

I'm pretty sure I grabbed the right downtube shifter since that's the one that shifts the rear derailleur. The black piece (mount) is from an old suntour thumb shifter that broke. That cable adjuster is from an old Ultegra derailleur that cracked. Amazingly, the threads on the Suntour shifter mount matched the Ultegra RD cable adjuster and the Campy downtube shifter bolt.

The one thing I noticed that maybe didn't come through too well in the pic is that the barrel diameter of the downtube shifter around which the cable wraps is a little smaller than the barrel diameter of the original thumb shifter. Hopefully that won't be a problem.
