Interested in his claim that these will fit in "most" frames - never tried a non UCI legal tire in my PsychloX. Currently running 23mm Belgians. If true would be awesome but seems tight.

Yeah, I think that's a liberal definition of "most." I know my geared bike will fit it because I spec'd it for 40s, but my singlespeed probably won't have proper clearance for mud and debris with this size tire.
When my 43mm Bruce Gordon's wear out I will try these. They were a bit of overkill for the trails around me.

Still waiting patiently for the 700x40something slicks they teased a while ago

if i could fit it, i wouldnt mind running one of these in the rear and something a bit smoother up front.

IME rock n roads are pretty smooth on road considering how much tread. The new compass tires are great on dirt I bet but look really buzzy on pavement.

38mm is not cx. Monster cross, maybe.

Do you race UCI? I ask because I'm having a hard time coming up with a legitimate downside to wider CX tires. I might not love this specific tread pattern but the idea appeals to me for racing.

Yeah. They definitely don't look like they're trying to compete with the BG tires. Per the blog post, they're explicitly designed for cyclocross racing. I'm sure that given Compass's audience it will see lots of use for "mixed terrain" rides but I appreciate Jan's willingness to design around racing first, whether or not one agrees with his design philosophy.

I don't race UCI, and I understand that outside of the UCI regs I can pretty much ride anything I want, but that doesn't mean I'll call just anything cyclocross.
Outside of UCI regs flat bars are allowed. That doesn't mean mtb = cross.

Excellent association.
I will be curious to see how these compare to my more conventional CX tires (MXP, X-One, etc) The idea of knobs on a wide tubeless Compass casing is compelling. Certainly a lot of rubber holding things down in corners...

Anyone ride these yet? I tore a sidewall this morning and am considering replacing with one of these.
