Pretty sure I saw it on Paceline--searched, but did not turn it up... (Too many threads with red bikes, & not in the recent 'Favorite Paint' thread.)

It was a thinning red fade going to clear from head tube to rear. You could see the carbon weave through the red, but I think it started from a solid finish at the headtube.

(also interested if the pros think this would be doable as a repaint, or would it require a bare frame that had not been clear coated to get a good job)

TIA, Dean

Calfee has done some transparent finish work. Didn't see a fade, but here is a clear red.

That Calfee pic is so huge that I only see the dropouts.
They will certainly do a fade as you describe, but do you recall perhaps the brand/model of the specific frame you saw here?

Not seeing the picture--but I looked on the Calfee site, and if I found the same bike--that is nice but not quite what I remember.

The trouble with old age... don't remember the brand, although it looked like a 12k weave pattern--Tickdoc's picture of the McLaren is more like the carbon pattern I remember, but it was a brighter red...

Maybe it was a manufacturer's website for a boutique brand?

Just dumped my browser cache too, because of a malware threat, so can't look there. Hmm...
Thanks for the help, guys.

Gawd, these huge Calfee images are insane!

If not here, then where?
Velocipede Salon?
Hors Categorie?
WW? (Doubt it, not their real concern.)
Can you narrow down the suspects in any way?

@ mods: can you possibly please resize the images above?
It is really difficult to help the OP with those gargantuan images.
Thanks much.

Thanks for the kind offer! Here's a headtube shot where you can see the weave.

The red (although the carbon gave it that slight gray cast) was a bright red--Ferrari red?

That looks great!

I'm thinking you must be a pro! I get near Photoshop and I can't do anything...

Nice! Yeah not pro enough. Photoshop is good fun, its like being drunk with power, you can do anything, and sometimes the results are a bit too silly. :D
