If so...may I test fit a tire/wheel combo in it after the ride next weekend?

I have a tubular 29er wheel/tire set that I would LOVE to be able to use as-is for SS racing and I have a sneaking suspicion that it just might fit in the boxier crown (compared to TRP) of either a Whisky or Parlee fork.

Lemme know, thanks!

Yeah. I've got that nifty Parlee fork joining me on Saturday. You are welcome to check it out then or whenever.

interesting thought you have so I measured the Parlee fork:
52mm from the top edge of a Stan's rim to the underside of the fork crown.
54mm side to side at the fattest part of the tire (MSO 36, kinda near the tread).

It is definitely roomier than the TRP cross fork, but I think the Whiskey fork may be even roomier.

If so, I'll be riding with the owner of that bike on the Mystery Ride. I'm sure he wouldn't mind helping you out with a test fit of the whee.

This is a photo of a No. 7 fork (QR) with actual 51.5-584 tire in case this is any help.

Could we see a picture of the Whisky/Compass combo from the front or rear, pretty please? I'm just curious about the lateral clearance with that tyre.

Cheers,
John

eric, if you get a test done with the Parlee fork, please post the results/evidence. I have that TA fork too.

Sorry, but that combo is gone. There was ample clearance laterally. Distance between the inside of the fork blades for a 700c tire is ~70mm so it will be slightly more for a 650b tire as the blades open consistently to 100mm.

Whisky's have lots of room, I love em for that fact alone.

I fit a 650b 2.0 in one i bought for a friend, coulda probably gone a lil bigger too! (https://www.instagram.com/p/BFFeGnXPidT/?taken-by=ericbaumann)

The question Id like to answer with this new test is how large of a 29er tire can I fit. Im not sure what the size of the tubular 29er tires I have is, but they fit in the rear of my cx bike, easily, so i would love to find a fork that can also fit em.

I even bought a 3t luteus II (https://www.3tcycling.com/road/en/bike-components/forks/luteus-ii-team/) yesterday for testing purposes, sucker looks like it has ACRES of space and a nice shape/cable routing to boot!

Sounds like there will be much tire nerding-out at d2r2 this year (like most years)...hooray!

The Whisky Road Thru Axle fork does not have much clearance. At most a 30mm 700c or a 36mm 650 tire will fit. But they don't make the road fork anymore.

clearance for a 30c in a ROAD fork is actually pretty generous...if you want to ride 32's you should probably just get a cx fork...

After I made this thread and before D2R2, I bought a fork that is everything I was hoping for, and then some...
