Recently I converted my XT 2X10 to a 1X10. I used a Sunrace MX3 10-SPEED Cassette 11X42t, a Oneup oval 32t chain ring, 2.5mm spacers for the ring, and a Wolf Tooth Goat link so not to mess with the B screw. The system works perfect and cost was just over a $100 for the parts. The weight saving, simplicity, performance, and having a Narrow-wide chainring (no more chain drop) has sold me on 1X systems.
I never liked using the clutch mechanism on my XT deraileur, required significantly more effort to go into a lower gear, and much noisier. With the narrow-wide I have not dropped a chain since installed, about two months.
