View Full Version : Power meter: Pioneer vs. 4iii
I am in the market for a left-sided power meter, and have narrowed it down to these two. Anyone have first-hand experience with either?
Thanks in advance.

I'd take one Pioneer over three 4iiii units...
Any reason(s) why?

Stages
Great customer service and low profile with the v2

As much as I would like to support small companies starting up, it's a crowded market and I'm not sure 4iiii is a good value. A couple of friends bought them early on when they were under $400 and were not pleased. Issues with batteries lasting 2-4 weeks, questionable power numbers... They've probably sorted out those issues, but I'd rather go with something from a company that is more well known unless there is a huge savings to be had...
Stages seemed to have mixed reviews, though things seem to have improved with v2. Good to know they have good customer service, though I would prefer not to have to use CS at all [emoji846]
Anyone have experience with the Pioneer unit? Being a big company and all, I like to think they have done their homework before releasing the product but there is no guarantee of that. The reviews I have read online sound pretty good though.

I have the double sided Pioneer, it just works, every time, no fuss.

Are you ruling out Quarq, Power2Max etc. due to cost?

I have read his reviews; which helped me narrow it down to these two. I like the fact that I can upgrade either one of these to double-sided down the road if I want to. But the issues he (and others) experienced with 4iii makes me a little uneasy; though it sounds like v2 has mostly addressed these.

I would like to keep using my Shimano cranks. Cost as well.

Quarq Elsa RS, add the King BB shim/spacer kit to adapt the NDS cup and retain your existing 4-bolt Shimano chain rings and BB cups. Solution is more expensive than left only, but you do retain Shimano chain rings/shifting.
I had some store credit from Competitive Cyclist, and I just placed an order for the Pioneer.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
