In my "check out how neat my bike is" thread for my new-to-me CAAD10, someone pointed out that it might be an issue to have the two spacers above the stem because the compression plug provided with the FSA headset might not get low enough to support the stresses of the stem. Per Canndondale's instructions, you want to have the plug even with the stem to provide extra support for the clamping forces.

I've read conflicting reports for whether this actually matters or not, but I'd still like to play it safe with the carbon if I can. I'd also like to avoid cutting the steerer tube any farther for any future resale.

Does anyone make an extra long compression plug to provide that support?

Enve one is pretty long. But I'd just hack down that donut holder if I were you.

Specialized made a nice long one, if you can find one anywhere.

How long do you need?

Deda has a longish one:

Origin 8 has a 50mm long one:
