Armstrong takes her 3rd Olympic gold. I guess that is one way to silence the critics of the selection process...

She has shown even when she has time off that she can peak for the big races.

Wow, American women stepping up. Particularly compared to the men so far. It would be nice if this translated to more equitable financial rewards....both prize money and $ from endorsements.

“The last 5k, I knew it was close,” Armstrong told NBC. “My coach behind me said, ‘You better decide what color medal you want today.’ The last 5k was for my road team. It was for Mara [Abbott].”

Horner won the Vuelta at 42 and everyone accused him of doping so let's do this same for her. Maybe she can become the new Jeannie Longo!

Women seem to be able to perform at elite levels at older ages (judging from my totally non-scientific following of a few sports).

She has been an elite cyclist for years and Horner was well beyond his normal cycling results at the Vuelta.

Not trying to get in trouble here, but there is so much more depth in the men's fields that it is harder to excel at an older age.

... Or the population of competitors isn't as large, increasing the chances for a random outlier to reach the top.
