A bit of a specific question, and not really sure what to search for:

Can I use an 11 spd. 105 FD with an 11 spd. Rival front shifter?

id say no, because of the extra super extendo arm on the 105 fd, i would imagine the pull ratio would be quite different.

could be wrong though.

ideally no, but i've done something similar, pairing a sora 8 speed front shifter to a rival front derailleur

It's actually a 10spd. 5700. Now OK?

i would guess it's ok because iirc people were using shimano fd to resolve sram front shifting issues before shimano went to long arms. but if you're shopping for a new fd, you could consider if a yaw fd will work.

My shop ordered me the correct fd. It's such a cheap part. However, it has no clamp. The cost of the 28.6 clamp is basically the cost of the derailleur. They have the 105 derailleur as well.

Hence the discussion.

I have a Rival 11 31.8mm clamp NIB I'll sell you for $20 plus shipping if this is an option for you. You just need a shim. I'd prefer the YAW FD.

Nope, shimano Fders are very shimano 11s lever specific..maybe a 10s shimano front der..

A front der that 'costs' $15? That's what a problem solvers 28.6 clamp for braze on front der costs. I'd try the shimano front der for philosophical reasons..;)

The rule is this: "SRAM...The groupset for which the less you use from it, the better it works..." So yes you can use a Shimano front derailleur and expect an improvement in performance.

you should know better than to ask questions about help with sram. might as well ask: "what's the best way to disembowel and consume a fetus I just aborted?"

but to answer your (second) question, yes a 5700 fd will work with your rival front shifter. but I'd recommend just paying the $25-ish for a rival yaw fd. they're better than the shimano ones anyway, because no trim to get to all your gears.

Not with a Rival 11s front shifter on account of there will be no trim in either position for the front derailleur. The Rival 22 front derailleur is fine. Yaw is annoying to set up but it works.

It certainly is a tired refrain no doubt most often touted by people who have never used or worked on SRAM. So, you know, super helpful.

I like SRAM. I can't wait for Force etap so I don't have to spend 1600 on shifters and derailleurs :bike:
