Anyone have any experience with Kinlin XR30's? Thinking of building up a set of inexpensive, but decent wheels. Input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Other build details besides rim model might help. Intended use, rider size, hubs, spokes (type, # of crossings, etc) tire size...
Campy or shimano? Steel or Ti ;)

I built up a set of xr270 rims 20/24 (radial/ 2 cross) & they built up reasonably straight and true, they held up fine to a few rides under my 200# before I sold them on a project bike. They were a decent rim for not a ton of money, but I've built with straighter/tougher rims on other projects...they just cost a bit more.

XR-300?

Pretty basic, if a little light, 30mm rim. With enough spokes, and built well, fine wheelset. I like DT460 more better tho..

good rims IMO

xr-300 rear, 270 front here. built up easily, flat and round out of the box. 32s front and rear on some sweet purple hope hubs. bought the rear hub at a swap meet ages ago and found a front, so bought these inexpensive rims to build them too. i'm a fan!

they are good, but i'd recommend the XR-31T (http://www.bikehubstore.com/C31-p/c31.htm). wider rims, probably more aero.

only down side is it's awfully difficult to mount tires on the rim.

The front wheel on my road bike is the XR-31T, and the rear is a XR-30

Been using Kinlin xr270's and xr300's rim for years for lot's cx racing and trail riding and winter abuse. For an AL rim it is my go to rim.

I have the XR270, 20/24 no complaints other than a little tick i think its the spokes, I sometimes loob them (nips and spoke junctions) and it seems to help for a ride or two. In reality i need to get a spoke tension tool and take better care of my wheels. I hear they can crack at the nipple holes, so maybe not for clydes.

Sorry for the typo guys - 300's. Sounds like reasonable option. At 165-170 lbs depending upon time of year, 24/20 should be more than adequate if I choose. Thanks.

XR270 have been my go-to rims for affordable handbuilts. A few people have reported brake track pulsing but I've built 3 sets now and they've all come out great. Not as nice as my CXP33s or DT465s, but they build up easy and are very strong rims. They've been blown out across the internet (I stocked up when IRO blew them out for $15/rim as their 'stock' rim before they went out of business). XR300s are a bit taller, narrower and stronger. Note that they take a bit more 'bedding' of the spokes than most rims.
