So I picked up this pinarello magnesium, I just got a new NOS fork for it from Gita looks awesome but so awesome I might have to get rid of my c59. I need money as in buying a new house and kinda got hammered with concessions on selling current house last minute so every dollar counts. This is why I have been weaning down my bikes, power meters ,and wheels golf clubs etc.. and just going with one bike. The build will be

Bora one wheels
2015 Chorus Group set
2015 super record crank
SRAM red 11-32 cassette (yes it works with 50-34 not so much with 52-36 or 53-39)
Selle regale carbon saddle
Deda superleggero stem and ritchey neo Classic bars
Speed play zero Ti pedals.

Here's a couple pics of the pinarello dogma size 59 and a pic of another forum members colnago c59 mine is same color same size.

Keep the Pinarello; that's one of the best looking bikes I've seen recently.

C59s are almost "ten a penny" compared to that Pinarello.

Doh!!

Engines are Cooper IC
With a heat recover boiler off each engine running a steam turbine. Man I am so on the fence, on one hand I've had a colnago c59 traditional and an eps and both ride better than any bike I've had. But I can probably get more money for the c59 also. And right now kinda need it. Although the c59 are more available it's probable a slightly superior bike for me I like a slower handling bike as I do a lot of fast descents. And it's hard to find a used 56s,

Keep the dogma. They are getting harder to find. The dogma and look 585 are two frames I would buy back with the right opportunity.

a baby plant, about 80ish MW?

Have you ridden the Pina yet? If not you owe it to yourself to at least cable it up, throw a chain on and see how it rides...

I suspect that any small additional amount you will get from selling A vs. B will mean little in the big picture. Faggetabout about resale. Fagetaboot (for our Canadian friends...) replacement.

Keep what speaks to you the most. GL.

Don't be logical. Go by feeling. Which bike makes you happiest riding it? One of the worst feelings to have about a bike years later is to realize, damn, sure wish I hadn't sold that.

I expected to say colnago before I opened the thread. After seeing the magnesium dogma, I quickly changed my mind. Sweet, unique, and one of the better looking builds I've seen in a while.

Your Pinarello is one of the coolest builds I have seen in a long time.
I think the carbon / metal mix frames are some of the underrated frames right now.
There is a cool Coppi right now on the bay that probably won't sell for over $200.
I sold my modern race bike and ride a carbon fork and stay frame now. Love it

Yeah I'm really torn I always ride a carbon bike for awhile then I get sick of it and get a steel bike, recently I had two bikes for awhile the uber is steel bike and the cx zero both great bikes both different but wanted to lean down and just do one bike. Picked up the dogma thought it would be an inexpensive bike I can ride for a long time then the c59 popped up in my size at a good price and I said there it is im done, I'll sell the dogma. But once the new fork was installed and I put the wheels on it to see how it looked I started too get that sick feeling in my stomach like when your a kid and you have to go to the principles office because I knew I had a decision to make that I wish I didn't have to make. I thought the colnago would be the obvious choice but the polls are pretty close

Keep them both. You're not really talking about a lot of cash here when all is said and done. You'll be spending exponentially more on house crap in the years to come (just check out the price of new windows, stove, fridges, etc...).

Otherwise, I'm in the camp of keeping whichever one you like to ride more. And don't be too influenced by which one looks more 'badass.' Go with the one that feels better with your eyes closed. You don't ride 'looks.' You ride 'feel.'

The colnago is gorgeous but that Pinarello is so unique. As far as a frame material goes, why magnesium? How does it compare to Ti or steel?

The Pinarello is way too blingy for me but I'm assuming you dig it so for me it would come down to ride quality.

I will say the pics don't do it justice. The top tube and down tube Are a shaped tubing similar to a master and the down tube is huge. The chain stats and dropouts are what really stick out for me the seem so beefy and stiff the dropouts are like a 1/2"-5/8" thick. Really cool frame. I think I'm leaning to the colnago though, but like I said I wish there was no c59 and this was a bike I could be content with. As I can picture it being super stable and stiff when going for a bunched sprint with your buddies.

Here's a closeup of the NOS fork it looks really cool

The pinarello is pretty.

I voted Colnago. I did 9 years in a shop in the 90's, I'm lucky to have had a lot of good bikes. The only bike I have ever sold and missed was my Conic in Aireostea (sp) colors. Six years ago the new bike urge was too strong, I got an EPS, it still looks and rides like new, 5 to 7 thousand miles a year. My honey needs a new bike, she had a Master Olympic in the 90's, it is time for a C60.
I love aluminum and would like to try magnesium, but when push comes to shove, .....

Actually I think the c59 weighs about 1600 grams frame fork headset in my size
This frame is about 1800-1900 I believe frame fork headset. So really only about a lb heavier and maybe a lb lighter than a steel frame.

Just to compare my pegoretti duende size 59 weighed I think 1800 -1900 grams frame only
No headset. Or fork
And my love #3 was pretty similar to the weight of this. 1580 in size 60 frame only

So I think this magnesium bike is similar weight or slightly lighter than a alloy bike.

The love #3 chain stays where too beefy for me, my right foot is flared out and my heel would hit chain stats so I only road that bike a few times then sold it.
The duende was probably my favorite steel bike not really sure why I sold it oh yeah it was to buy my old c59 btw here's a couple pics of both those bikes. They where both a little to big for me. Reach wise so I had a low setback seatpost.

Love

Your frame is consistnetly one too large, as you point out.

Italian bikes in large sizes are designed to be ridden with setback posts and long stems, I dont think you are hitting the sweet spot of their sweet handling.

Bantamben
08-07-2016, 07:25 PM
Your right !
I just was trying to get less drop. And I've found I have too much drop with my 82cm saddle height. The dogma with slammed stem has 10cm of drop I'm guessing the 56s would have a little more

reggiebaseball
08-07-2016, 07:31 PM
I am very close to your fit on a bike, but a little bit longer in my extremities,
I ride 83.5cm saddle height,
I started wit ha size 59 peg with a 140mm stem, it was ok,

then I moved to a size 60 with a 145mm stem (and a 37mm setback seatpost) and it was awesome.

I prefer traditional TT on bikes of our size over sloping, but that is a personal thing.

I'm gonna leave it up to pace line members and go by the poll!
It ends at 1:30 tonight. But it looks like I'm gonna keep the colnago. Although the dogma fit wise might be a tad bit better. I'm 6'1" but with long legs and shorter torso and arms for my size plus I'm inflexible so 12cm drop is definitely all I can do 10-11 is much better and I only like one spacer more than that I feel it affects handling.

Still, after all this it seems pretty clear you should keep both. If I had to choose, Pinarello.

The winner is the colnago, I'm not happy about it but a choice needed to be made so I can pay for the termite treatments. So tommorrow the ak61 pinarello dogma magnesium will go on the Sale block.

Deliberate or not, this was a brilliant marketing scheme to sell a frame!
