I have been thinking about building a shed. I am not master craftsman but I can do it said the little train.

My 7 year old really wants to build something, we need it and I need to get away from a computer a bit.

Anyway, can anyone suggest plans or a place I look?

I built one years ago using a Home Depot book called "Outdoor Projects 1-2-3". It has a section just for sheds and really helped.
Looks like it has been discontinued but you can still find used ones, e.g. on Amazon here (https://www.amazon.com/Home-Depot-Outdoor-Projects-1-2-3/dp/0696206730).

I like tinkering in general but the shed was something I really enjoyed, cool to see progress and how things come together.
Did everything including wiring, windows, door, roof, siding etc. the only thing I didn't want to tackle was the concrete slab.

I am sure this will be an absolutely awesome project to do together with your son!

Have fun...

I bought an 8'x10' kit and put it together...pretty easy, just need some basic tools, but you need some help for some heavy stuff.

I was thinking when it comes time to do it I would pick up a kit as well and assemble. This one (http://www.lowes.com/pd/Heartland-Stratford-Saltbox-Engineered-Wood-Storage-Shed-Common-12-ft-x-8-ft-Interior-Dimensions-11-71-ft-x-8-ft/4507034) was on sale not too long ago for like $200 off..

Holy crap, that's a trainwreck!

I too have longed for a shed--maybe this fall is the year it gets done.

There have been some pretty good articles in Fine Homebuilding...

I'd love a shed, I just have to submit my scale model, survey coordinates, 13 step city approval....soil sample...

how big do you want it to be?

building a shed is super simple. decide how large you want it to be, how many openings you want, and what type (door, windows), and what type of floor you want.

building on a slab is probably the best option, but pouring some small concrete sonotubes works too.

what type of roof do you want?

Use plate glass. If Philip Johnson can do it, so can you:

Beautiful. Perhaps not in my budget :(

I appreciate that. I may kind of draw something up and use you as a sounding board. I am sure I will design something with hideous amounts of waste lumber and I don’t want that.

Thanks. I was thinking kind of going Sonotubes and building the deck so I can have a nice deck entry to it. Bad for the mower but may look nicer.
