I'm very intrigued by these.

Here (https://onyxrp.com/product-category/road/)'s their website, which they admit is not very good. Not a ton of info out there.

Wanting to move either sets of my wheels to try them out on the gravel bike or road bike.

All of the staff at my new LBS are bonkers for them. They're all trying to get me on them for my next build. Haven't had a chance to get down there and check them out in person yet.

I've heard great things, but haven't seen them up close. I've been curious and wanted to get on a set for a bit.

Hoping to hear some feedback as well!

Here's an early review (a couple of years ago) on WW:

Saw that when googling. Not a lot else out there on them.

Did you see this one too?

They seem nice, but I agree that the lack of real and current reviews is odd.

I'll try to get some hands on this weekend... Wonder if they'd loan me a set...

I have thousands of miles on a rear hub.

I thoroughly enjoy the quiet coasting and instant engagement. The hub adds a sophisticated feel to the whole drivetrain. Changing axles & end caps is easy as pie. With bearing pre-load adjusted appropriately there's near zero drag. Be aware, when applying force to the pedal in a very low gear, with the front wheel blocked, a minor amount of give can be seen & felt as the sprags stand-up upon engagement, but that give doesn't occur while in motion. I mention this because new users sometimes think their hub is faulty when noticing this effect.

In a link posted previously there is mention of titanium freehub body; mine is steel. Also, another link has comments about poor flange spacing, mine has good flange geometry.

Very low drag. https://www.dropbox.com/s/cs2g251nz9faz14/dev-wheel-spindown.pdf?dl=0

I have a set on my MTB and on my BMX race bike. I think they are the bees knees. The only knock against them is the weight. Otherwise, it takes exactly one ride before you wonder why all hubs aren't quiet. Nothing like mountain biking where the main noise is your tires crushing dirt. The zero engagement also makes track stands and trialsy moves easier.

what on earth is that on? That seems like a huge smooth tire. XO group? Some kind of insane commuter?

I think I don't really care about the weight, and it's really not a huge amount heavier than some other stuff, especially considering it's at the hub. If I was going weight weenie I'd first have to do go weight weenie on myself...

I really think a wheelset with these hubs would be very interesting on my belt drive bike.

Sold a wheelset (belgiums to WI T11 hubs) and am going to pull the trigger on on a set of Onyx hubs...now to figure out their color options....

NOBL carbon wheels is using them as their stock hubset. Ive never seen them, but think the idea is very cool. Silent hubs would be great (coming from someone who owns Hope and DT hubs)

Have some road hubs in their "Black Chrome" on their way. Should be a nice color with my Road Logic. Going to build to Boyd Altamont Lite hoops.

Somebody stop me from trying road tubeless again?

Got my hubs in. VERY excited about these. I've heard hubs described as having instant engagement, or being totally silent before. None have ever really been that - looking at you, Zipp Cognition hubs. The Cognitions are actually nice, they've very quiet, and very quick, just not silent or instant.

The Onyx hubs are the first I've had in my hands to truly deliver on either of those, let alone both. They're insane. And I am pretty happy with the color, I think they match up nicely with the Ritchey. I opted Helix option on the front, which is a funky cutout.

Here (https://www.instagram.com/p/BKoOrxRAG5C/)'s a video I made that tries to demonstrate how silent they are - hard to do without them being on a wheel. But basically the noise of the front hub spinning freely is louder than the noise of the "ratcheting" of the rear. It's crazy. Once I get it built up, I think I'll be able to demonstrate better, and also the instant engagement.

The rear is noticeably heavier than other high end hubs I've held, I didn't put it on a scale yet, but I will tomorrow. The front is in line with other nice hubs.

Weights! Not light, but not completely offensive either. Certainly not the heaviest hub I've ever owned. 101g on the front, 359 on the rear.

They look cool, weights are respectable, but with the cutouts in the hub trying to keep it clean would be a hassle... imo of course.

You can order them without the cutouts. That's what I did for both of my sets.

The cutouts are super cool but he/she is right, it will be a huge pain to clean. Weight is fine but that is heavier than a powertap hub. Are they heavy because of the mechanism to make em silent?

I have had quieter hubs, Its a cool feel but I do like loud hubs (not chris king though). Loud hubs saves lives

Correct. The rear is heavy due to the sprag clutch mechanisms. They're what makes it silent and what make the engagement instant.

I've got the wheelset built up, and have been out for a couple rides. First off, since people always seem to care, the wheelset weighs 1770g. Just like every wheelset I build for myself, it's not light, but it'll be incredibly durable and ride fantastically.

I cannot express how bizarre it is to have a wheel that is this quiet. It's truly striking. After a spending the majority of the last couple years riding around on a wheelset with Industry9 hubs, I'm used to being able to coast at people to make some kind of passive aggressive point with the insanity of the noise. Certainly a bit of an adjustment.

The instant engagement is striking every time, and that's coming from riding Inudstry9 or White Industries hubs, which certainly aren't slouches for engagement..

They roll incredibly smoothly, and the rims are a close approximation of the HED Belgiums which I'd previously had, as far as what they'll do to a tire.

I had planned on running 28mm Clement Strada LGGs on here, but on these rims they measured about 30.5mm wide when at 90psi. They do not clear the brakeset on the bike (KCNC CB9) until they're down around 35psi. Certainly too low for my fat :butt: to ride.

I temporarily threw some Schwalbe One (tubeless version) in 23mm on there. I despise mounting tubeless tires, even with tubes. They proved very difficult to seat on the rims with tubes and regular cloth rim tape. I will consider tubeless again on my next set of tires, once I have some more tubeless rim tape and the frustration of my last tubeless experiences have faded and I forget how frustrating I find it.

I have some 25mm Challenge tires on the way, hopefully they'll be better.
