I pulled the trigger on a surly ecr yesterday. Wondering what if any fenders I can run with the surly racks mounted and if anyone has any experience with 29+ fenders with racks?

Planet Bike makes the Cascadia ALX in plastic and aluminum. Designed for 29x2.0.

if you can live with 2" tires, Berthoud makes a 60mmx700 fender. I guess stretching them to the much more common 2.25 is probably a no-go, haven't tried it yet though

Honjo makes a 650B 62mm that could be adjusted and Velo Orange makes a 700c/29er 63mm...

Do you need a rear fender with the rack mounted? Maybe just line it with corrugated plastic (hey, plenty of campaign signs around right?). Crud catcher up front would work well. This is what I typically use on my Pugsley.

I think I may try your aproach. I'm running the stock surly knards which are 3.0 and was just wondering what others have done for there fatties. I have some planet x fenders on my lht and I like them a lot, but apparently the market for 29+ fenders hasn't been explored too much. Thanks!

May also have a look at these. I just got done from my shakedown ride and am soaked as well as cruddy. Looks to be plenty of clearance up front. It gets a little tight in the rear with the rack on.

I think the main reason is because for a dirt touring rig, they don't make that much sense. First encounter with mud could rip those full length fenders apart real quick. Or rocks, sticks, any number of things. Also, catching something in your front fender on a tour could end things real quick. If you look at any number of blogs of people on fat bike dirt tours, nobody is using fenders. For a good reason, IMO.

But if you really want a full length set, MK makes some (custom). Not cheap, though.

That certainly makes sense as the clearance especially on the rear seems limited anywayand when the rack is covered it shouldn't really matter.
