On paper these sound like the perfect wheels and I want some super bad.

Reasons:

1) Solves the #1 biggest problem with aluminum wheels = raw machined brake track looks stupid with gumwalls compared to carbon rims. ;)

2) Aero = cool I guess

3) Light = nice.

4) Stiff, 2:1 lacing, internal nipples blah blah blah could probably take it or leave it.

On the negative side, the first kickstarter batch is probably going to have a 75% failure rate.

Anyone here think they'll risk their cash on an unproven kick-startup and/or their teeth on unproven wheels?

"The coating should last for three years" to me sounds ver similar to "the coating will last until you ride in the rain."

lots of ceramic coatings in the past have had problems with chipping. especially around minor dents. I would get a non ceramic coated pair, although, they look like tire mounting will suck ass.

that thing is way narrow in comparison to the rim in question.

important to some people

word on the streets is that a bulged out bulgy rim is way more aero bro.

Seems expensive for what it is. Archetype and some DT rims similar(not as torodial-ee), but w/o the internal nipp gig. Similar weight. Great another somebody having a go at rims..not just wheels.

they look like tire mounting will suck ass.

I went looking at the Velocity Quill, thinking it was a toroidal shape as well. Compared to them this kickstarter rim seems much more tire-mounting-friendly. Very deep center channel for lots of "bead dip". If anything these look like they'd be easier as far as tire mounting goes.

Toroidal interests me because my primary brake use now comes on my race wheels and they're toroidal shape, meaning the rim cants inward at the top. I'd like to have something similar so the pads don't get worn in two different patterns.

Also my race wheels are wide (28mm?) and I'd rather not have to turn the barrel adjusters 5 times each time I switch wheels (23mm clinchers). Up front due to cable routing issues the cable has a lot of friction with the clincher/narrow/"5-turns-up" setting. On race wheels it's fine.

IMO, this people need to get those rims in tubular and they will have a win, you have zillions of clinchers rims in the market and even you can get chinese stuff too. Make aero light tubular rims and you have a market that IMO is not satisfied completely, good carbon wheels can cost more than a set of wheels, nobody has descent aero aluminum tubbie rims aswell.

IMO the ceramic thing is not necessary. Just make them tad thicker and good to go.

465g rims isn't light. there's lots of options at that weight. the HED s are lighter.

Profile is not like super high either... this guys can step upon something if they get 35 to 45 mm aero rims that match many of the spoke counts campagnolo and mavic have.

we developed carbon rims with ceramic tracks, no one was interested ,
