So I have been off the bike for a little bit, finally felt good enough to go out. Ignored the clouds gathering around, sure enough end up riding in the middle of very strong wind storm, trees were cracking around me and I was riding diagonal to the road for a small strech. Anyways got to a fun descent and decided that "hey why not use the wind to my advantage", plus I wanted to "beat the clouds home".

So the road is covered with branches and debris, and I'm still hauling pickin' lines and plowin' through, sure enough I hit a fig newton at 40+mph, I was in the drops and managed to hold it. A few seconds later thwap thwap thwap thwap thwap. flat!

Change the flat. start riding again. Almost done with the ride and notice a wierd blimp on my front tire. I stop to examine and discover the horror....acne!

Maybe I'm saying what's obvious to everyone else, but it might be a delamination between the casing and the tread. I had one once, on a Specialized tire. Helped by a very nice cyclist (I suspect maybe a Paceliner; he was riding a quality steel bike), we determined that the casing was intact, then lanced the bubble, which got me home. I tossed the tire after that, and some time later its mate developed a similar problem, though it was thoughtful enough to bubble up at home.

Sorry if I deviated inappropriately from the humor around this.

Thanks, actually I was hoping someone would shed some light on why/how this happened.

Was the perturbation of the lamination between the casing and tread a result of hitting the jagged edged fig newton? Or was it a result of my erroneous flat repair?

It was a fairly anxious flat change with wind blowing around me something fierce, branches flying every where, and a few frazzled cyclist trying also trying to make it home safe and sound. Anyways I did not have my pump on this bike and only two 16gram CO2 cartridges. My tubes are kept in a baggie, pre-powdered for easy insertion and harmonious coexistence with the tire. I was in a hurry and only removed one bead of the tire, stuck the completely un-inflated flat tube into the tire, fiddled it around a bit inside and re seated the tire, a lighting fast ice cold blast of the CO2 and I was on me way. Could it have been the fast CO2 inflation that damaged the tire?

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j49/PedalPusher33/IMG_1235_zpszyq2ckdd.jpgFor those that are curious, yes that road surface is bleepin bleepidy CHIP SEAL!:crap:

BTW the toothpaste has dried out the pimp somewhat, still not blemish free though. I have yet to examine the flat tube, and if an infusion of super glue into the dimensional void between the casing and tread fails to restore balance to the force, dissection and analysis will follow suit…

Finally those high school biology owl pellets and frogs will come in handy!

Finally got around to removing the tire...

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j49/PedalPusher33/IMG_1646_zpskwnzhyor.jpg

Tear in the casing, outer rubber tread just fine. Tried some super glue and a patch in between the casing and tread... no dice. Tire is toast, sux it was almost new and I am a tire matching kinda fella.

For the record Windex and toothpaste was useless, then again it was flouride free...

Ruptured casing from hitting a stone or something. Amazing that the tread Held

Nice crocs, bro man.

I am a hater turned believer, they are so versitile. I am a bit of a household slipper connoisseur/collector, Crocs are the best especially if you want to run outside to get the mail. Though pretty sure these are a bootleg version, sox and Crocs all the way!

Yup, hit it fast and held it in a wind storm.

I'd boot that with some landscape cloth and go to town!

Huh, never thought of that, that stuff is great especially the grey sporadically fiberous version instead of the mesh. Covered the whole garden in it 4 years ago+some preen = no weeds nuthin, just mulch. I got a bunch and some burlap too...

I have a Pasela that developed a sidewall bulge so I thought I'd give it a try. My wife gardens so there's is a bunch of that stuff around. It worked great! Tyvek is also another material I've considered, though the landscape fabric seems hardier. Obviously it's more temp solution but the Pasela is still holding, although I don't ride it much.
