I've done this twice in the past. Post a small pic of part of a car and see who recognizes it. Gradually I'll post bigger pics until someone gets it. But this time I'm being a real pain, posting a super small shot, or rather a crop from a shot. People on this forum are too damn good at recognizing cars. The last time I was stunned at how fast it was recognized based on only two small, and I do mean small, crops. So this time even smaller. There's somebody on the forum who ought to be banned from this post but I won't say who but he'll know.

Cheers

That looks like flame front design. I think it's the hood of a violet blue BMW M4.

You're going to have a great laugh when you finally see the car. And just for a small hint for everyone, we're not talking exotic here. Well, depending on the definition of exotic of course. Think of a car that makes you smile.

Jeez, you guys are too good. I mean the car barely even exists in the states. The guy passed me going out on the way to Col du Petit Mont Cenis, way out near the end. He was coming back and I stopped him and asked if I could shoot some pics. He said, sure, all I want. Gets out of the car, ciggy hanging from his lips, thin, long pants, long-sleeved white shirt, angular face, classic italian, nice guy. The car is cherry. He and his presumably wife were having fun.

Are you saying he passed you uphills? No way...
Despite being old, overweight and out of shape, I would challenge that thing on my bike anytime going up any pass in the Alps ;)

As a matter of fact, it was the only vehicle that I could dare to overtake on my frequent trips between Munich and Switzerland in my slow as molasses 200D.

Maybe, as long as you never have to do a brake job on it.
One of my ex's had one in the 90s in Germany and when the front brakes were due, the dealer quoted between 1,000 - 1,500 Deutsch Mark which would translate to around $2K - $3k today.

The car guy I was, I volunteered to do it for her. Worst decision of my life.
On a positive note, should you ever have to replace a fender, you'll make up the time, no tools needed, one quick pull with your bare hands and off it is...

Classic and cool nevertheless. BTW, love the color, never seen one in this blue before. Most of them were orange, white, green, black/burgundy (Charleston Duck) and some silver.

I loved watching these cars as a kid. They have some insane amount of suspension travel, I was fascinated by the whole concept of the wheels being sprung off of the car (meaning they moved independently of the rest of the car). Actually I still am. I'd sit for long stretches of time at the railroad crossing right near my house watching cars bounce over the tracks. 2CVs were my favorite, stiffly sprung trucks my least.

That was actually one of the few times I've recognized something like this instantly. But I was thereby constrained by 'honneur' to refrain from commenting..... Fun, thanks!
