Can you use either end with Shimano and only the smaller one with Campy? I am installing in Shimano 10 STI.

I dont know. You dont want to risk getting it stuck though. A shift cable stuck in a Shimano shifter can be a pain in the ass to get out.

I believe so. I was thinking about this earlier in the week. Why don't the cable makers just make all road bike shift cables with Campy ends?

Campy cables will work in a shimano shifter, not the other way ay around. The cable just doesn't fit as snug

Bigger question, why has campagnolo insisted on using a different standard for all these years?

Which is different? What is standard? Loaded question. :)

I've used campagnolo cable kits on three bikes with Shimano shifters...no problems at all

Is this a trick question? What I use is "standard," of course, and what I don't use is "different." I mean, duuuuh.

Sometimes they're stamped 'c' or 's' on the end.

Bigger I guess drives 'standard', altho shimano BBs are devoid of BB30/PFBB30, etc...Campagnolo is the standard ...all else is 'different..like my 3 year old grand daugfhter says...'duh''''..

To borrow a music term, all other brands would be "covers"
