Picked my sons bmw wagon up from service today and snapped this pic of the shop owners baby:

Very nice. Can't say I recall seeing too many in Orange either. Which is a favorite color of mine.

Good in AZ, not so much (rustworms) in A2.

Great car... almost bought one 10-12 yrs ago.

That's my dream 2002 right there. Perfect color, correct wheels. All it needs is a wood rim Nardi steering wheel.

I use the same logic for my car choice.

Wow! What a beautiful example. Although, Colorado looks better than Inka! ;)

'02s are one of my all-time, favorite cars. A small, brown 1974 2002 tii was the gateway car for me that turned my automotive world upside down. It moved me away from American iron to the European stuff. I was working at a Ford dealership right out of high-school (the only Saleen dealership in Houston at the time) and was driving a series of older, FAST Fords. The 2002 came into the dealership on a trade and was sitting on the back lot. A fellow gear-head that was working there couldn't stop talking about how great the cars were and that I should take it for a ride. A few days later, I took it out during lunch and was absolutely stunned how quick it was while being incredibly quiet and solid-feeling. The steering was so direct and it handled wonderfully. The brakes were soooo much better than the straight-line-fast behemoths that I'd been driving. It was seriously impressive. I didn't buy that one, but about a year later, I picked up an essentially mint, Colorado orange 1971 2002 that had been lightly modified. To this day, it's been one of my top 3 favorite cars that I've owned. It led to several other '02s, Bavarias, M5s, and a list of other less stellar BMW products.

In case you're not following the market, these cars have really taken off price-wise. A VERY nice one recently sold on BaT for over $70K!

Ashamed to admit I've never driven one, just lusted after them. An early eighties 325 coupe sold me on the brand, err, the handling and the feel.

Funny you mention Saleen. My first year of college was at a small private school about six hours away. I met a guy from my hometown that would give me rides home on the weekends in his Saleen convertible. This was 1989. I think it was no. 18? Anyway, his dad was a serious collector and this was his sons graduation present from high scjool:eek:

We got a ticket doing 130 once, and that was after slowing down! So glad I wasn't driving that time, but it was a blast.

Back to the 2002, 70k is what it would take to roll this one out of the showroom.

Just got back from Munich where I got the chance to visit the BMW Museum. Talk about a pristine 2002!

Very Very Cool! That was my dream car when I was looking to buy my first car at 16. Father said it had to be American and a stick. I got a Jeep with a 304 V8 :) That was trouble...

Ironic to see this thread....I just sent this pic to Dave Kirk telling him how much I like these new tires.

I've had this one since '77. It's a '68 that was brought into the states in '69.

Spends most of it's time in the garage these days since I haul lots of stuff back & forth to work each day. Mostly a weekend and Friday car at this point. Even after long periods of "rest" it fires up on the first try and is ready to go.

It also has a younger brother in the garage. A '74 Tii.

I'll try to post a pic later today....

Had a 1969 1600 years ago while in grad school. Best car I ever owned. Early version of the 2002. I give anything to have it back.

The thing that really impressed me (okay, the first thing) when I first drove one was the visibility. There's basically no blind spot. At that time I was riding my bike way more than driving, and a car felt a little claustrophobic to me. But besides being ridiculously roomy inside for its size, the way you can see out of the 2002 removed that flying-blind feeling for me completely. The car is very capable, and you can drive it to its capabilities with authority, because you can SEE what you're doing. I haven't driven a Bavaria, but I assume them to be similar -- the 3.0CS I drove briefly was also good.

There's still lots of cars, sports cars and even mom-mobiles, that scare the hell out of me with how poorly you can see. I really think this contributes to the accident rate. I'd love to see the manufacturers take a lesson from these designs.
