I picked up the new magnet-less Garmin sensors and there isn't enough clearance between the crank arm and chain stay on my bike `for the cadence sensor. I was bummed at first, but then had the idea to mount it on the outside of the crank arm. I did a quick test ride and there is a tiny bit of space between the sensor and my shoe when I'm clipped in, and the sensor seems to be working fine.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Do you foresee any problems with the way I have mine mounted?

Mount it on the drive side or on your shoe?

Have you tried mounting it close to the bottom bracket? First time I mounted mine, I put it near the pedal and it rubbed. Sliding it back toward the bottom bracket gives much more clearance.

I have a few thousand miles on one mounted on the outside. No issues whatsoever, and all of those miles are on gravel and dirt roads.

Mine is also mounted facing outward, about 2000 miles and no issues.

this is what I am doing in one of my bikes. I checked it out, cadence seemed to read fine so I am rolling with that.

I have no clearance at all on inside of the non drive side crank arm. There is enough room on the inside of the drive side crank, but it get awfully close to the chain - any side to side play on the chain if I go over bumps or anything and it will rub.

I had it on the outside of the non-drive side crank for a 20mi ride yesterday and it seemed to be fine. It's close to my shoe, but I think it should be ok there.

Is this sensor any better with connection to the head units than the original?

My cadence/speed sensor loses connection occasionally with the Garmin 810 (it is properly positioned). It may be the head unit since sometimes it will drop the connection to my Powertap
