We all know the pleasures and effort of cycling have benefits for physical and mental health. But what are some other simple pleasures in life that make you feel good off the bike? I can name a few, but lately...

Sitting on the patio at twilight on a clear night with my daughter, talking and relaxing in Adirondack chairs watching bats and fireflies circling out over our property in the fading light. Special moments.

What simple pleasure make you feel good?

-A quiet walk in the woods, hills, or mountains.
-The quiet of the house in the morning before anyone else wakes up.
-The smell of coffee brewing.
-The sound of birds waking up in the morning.
-Cold days (especially appreciated and missed this time of year).
-A twilight swim.
-The smell of old, German sports sedans.
-My kids' laughter.

Ahh the sounds of mother in law announcing that dinner's ready, come eat....yet another meal of overcooked formerly-meat-like resemblance....:bike:

i second this. i now find it therapeutic to get up early and make coffee in my chemex pot. grinding the beans with a hand grinder, waiting for the water to heat up, the first sip of good brew. all in golden silence. it's beautiful.

The thing that makes me the most happiest is spending time in my workshop building guitars. I completely get lost in there and sometimes don't realize that I've been working till 1am and have to get to bed.

Perhaps not a simple pleasure but one none the less.

cat / animal GIFS. not kidding.

Guilty of this as well, thankfully.

My kids laughing, a nice cool breeze through the house, the sound of dogs snoring, holding hands with my wife, a well made cup of coffee...

Thankful to have so many wonderful, simple things.

Good bourbon.. likey a little too much, though... don't get to indulge that one much anymore.

Listening to my oldest play a solemn piano solo.

Quiet Time - which is the time between the end of dinner and bedtime, in the Dead People house. Tummy full of my wife's delicious cooking and lots of wine, the day's woes finally being released.. kids strewn about the place quietly reading books, one or two sitting in my lap at the table, listening to a baroque chamber classic or sacred choral piece.. love Quiet Time.

As I've gotten older I appreciate things I never thought of before. How nice a sunset on my porch next to my wife can be. Spending time with my kids is way more satisfying. Lately I've been really enjoying spending time with my daughter, 15, tough age but watching her become an adult is both trying and amazing, much better kid than I was at 15. She's away in Idaho on a 2 week NOLS backing course and I really miss her more than I thought I would.

Walking my dog and watching her happily swish her tail back and forth simply because it's a pleasure to be outside... peeing and pooping. :D

Making coffee and breakfast, having a leisurely morning.

Drinking a beer on the porch.

Drinking a beer with friends.

Listening to an album without distraction.

Cooking.

I covet solitude and treasure serenity. Anytime, however brief, I feel those bestowed upon me in a day is a valued moment.

Simple pleasures? Sure.

A run around Central Park either during a snow fall or just shortly afterward. Calm in a city no known for calm while in a Park with tens of others in the middle of a city of 1.6 million.

Jaywalking across Third Avenue in late evening with no traffic on the Avenue but in looking up the hill to see the onslaught of headlights held back awaiting the next green light release. 30 seconds of peace before the next vehicular bull run.

Baby tarpon tucked up against the mangroves in Asencion Bay, Mexico. Threw a few flies, they were having none of it. Broke down and used the spin gear; It was a blast!!!!

I taught my little man to ride last weekend :). My daughter went first and is a wise little grasshopper (6yrs), but that 4yr old is trouble. Took him out for a ride this weekend, and he had his head down pedalling as hard as he could - veering into oncoming traffic from time to time. I see a few injuries in the near future :(.

The joy on their faces is palpable :)

i am lately more and more conscious of how much the weather affects my mood.

a good glass of scotch and a decent cigar last night on the patio. weather ideal, cool breeze, slightly overcast; warm enough for shorts and bare feet.

known as "the drinking man's scotch", dewars is my go-to drink 7 days a week, but when the moment calls for it, i pull out a bottle of something better.

A Rocky Patel and Macallan 15 was last night's simple pleasure, and it was - simply pleasurable. :hello:

Standing in a river. Fly rod in hand. Light snow falling. Three geese in formation flying low along the river.

I stopped for about 3 minutes to take in the quiet solitude.
