One of our local riders is about to embark on his 3rd RAAM attempt. Unfortunately, his first two attempts fell short and he is determined to finish this year. His trip out west hasn't started off great...one of his support crew was driving Marshall's Audi loaded with all the race gear from Florida to California and was hit by a semi near El Paso. The guy survived and is mending from multiple injuries. However, the car and gear are a total loss (see the attached picture).

This year, Marshall is riding for "3000 miles for the cure", and you can check out this charity if you have any interest in supporting their cause, which is brain cancer research...

The race itself starts today in less than an hour from now, and you can follow it here...

Tailwinds to you Marshall.

Just came from the start. Saw him along with Julianna Buhring and others roll out.

Good luck.

His latest location is at 2438.7 miles with only 650.3 to the finish, and he's only a couple miles behind the 1st place rider in his age group.

I opened this thread, saw the pictures and without reading the text imagined the worst. Glad it turned out better than I initially thought.

Congratulations to him. I've tried to get a few friends to join me in a 4 person group, but no luck.

That Audi looks awful. I hope no one was hurt. Semi's fault?

I had a chance to visit with Marshall for a bit yesterday and he was doing great. Not only did he get a plaque for finishing the RAAM, but he got a second one for being the Lanterne Rouge. Towards the end, he was cutting it close and had to work at making sure he made it by the cut off. He told me how many hours he was up at the end, and I think it was 50 straight...but don't quote me on that.

Overall, he said his body did well. He has some numbness in different areas, but he said it is much better than the previous two attempts. He was really happy to finish and said that he was glad that he never has to do that again

Congrats to Marshall Reeves!!!

If anyone is interested, my friend has written a book about his experiences doing RAAM...
