Oh man, I love that it was wind tunnel tested with mud. And that I have the term "Sqaero" at my disposal.

does it have gun mounts or something? it looks like a vehicle the military would waste money on.

It doesn't say Cervelo on the dt.

cable routing looks fine...its not wearing away the side of the headtube...
that front hydro hose though...

I saw an older couple riding the limestone Prairie path last weekend, both tucked down on their aerobar clip-ons. Part of me thought, "good deal, get out of the house and ride."

The other part of me thought, "wut?"

I wonder if this would make me faster on my MUT Strava segments? :p

There is a guy out by you that rides a mountain bike with TT bars. He is dangerous.

Can you say "chain suck"...I think you can...

I get the academic intent of the dropped drive side chainstay, but this design is going to sucking the chain into that stay with even the smallest amount of dirt/mud/chain ware.

This criticism seems like missing the forest for the trees. I'm not even convinced the design would lead to much chain suck particularly considering the prominence of clutch rear derailleurs.

The idea of an aero gravel bike seems prima facie ridiculous but if it's otherwise fully-featured and you're already shelling out for a carbon gravel bike I think it's kind of arbitrary to draw the line here.

I think it's awesome. I was one of the first comments on bikerumor, an I've been reluctant to go back to the comments section to check. I imagine I got buried there.

That guy was on the Seattle to Portland ride 10 years ago, or maybe there are two idiots out there !

Well three, the one who would buy this bike thinking aero mattered for a gravel bike.

What caught my eye were the 650b compatible clearances.

Then I looked again and realized I probably wouldn't actually *buy* one

At least only one der working like crappola instead of 2. Marketing run amok, again..I hope is has ceramic bearings...at least it has the 'standard set'...1by, thru axle, wet discs, fat fork and headtube..don't know how anybody can ride on a dirt road w/o this crap....pass:confused:

I'm admittedly not the target market but why not, in our spring series I've chased for over an hour on what was mostly dirt and poorly paved roads, or more often than not spent the race in groups of five or less.

If it wasn't for the aero marketing… it wouldn't be so bad? A 72.5' Carbon bike that fits 650b and 700c. Nice!

Except:

Really, who cares about aero-ness? Are you kidding me?
The custom seatpost :(
Did anyone mention that 3t wants 3000 for the basic frame, and 4200 for the fancy one?
There's a top tube bag/bottle mount, and i mean, that's kind of funny given that it looks there are no fender mounts.
3000/4200 for a frameset!

Oh well, not for me. $3000? I'd rather buy something else.

That 3T looks cool to me. I'm not sure that I understand the outrage. The pricing certainly appears in line with the other outrageously priced stuff that floats through this forum.

Is long and low really what you want for a gravel bike?

I don't know, gravel to me implies some more technical stuff. This thing looks like it's made for 10cm+ of drop which sucks on technical descents.

I would have to be running a short stem and/or super upright stem on this thing for sure to get anything approaching comfortable.

The use cases for a top tube frame bag and full fenders don't necessarily overlap all that closely for this bike. I can envision plenty of off-pavement rides where fenders are a detriment and a jamming point for mud and rocks.

This is, after all, a racing bike. It's an extremely niche item and one I won't be buying, but I don't think it's any more worthy of scorn than the rest of the recent wave of carbon gravel bikes with press fit bb's.

C'mon, it wouldn't be Paceline if people weren't getting upset about something they'll never buy.

I'll take superfluous aero shaping over tire clearance limited to 35mm any day of the week, but otherwise that Focus does seem like a cool bike, particularly in the more affordable alloy version. The Factory spec program is awesome too. Lots to like there.

The 3t frame has 47c 650b slicks on it, id bet the focus could probably fit a bigger-than-35c 650b tire in there.
Not to mention, for those who care enough about the high end "race" segment of this niche, 35c is actually a pretty good balance of cush and speed.

35 is definitely a good balance for what we have around here (as of today, my road and cx tires on my cx bike are both 35mm) and probably a lot of other places but there are guys in the Midwest racing gravel races on 40mm+ tires just to deal with the huge chunky gravel they have. Regardless of reality of individual use it just seems kind of silly to limit users to a size narrower than that which the industry at large has deemed "the size of gravel tires" ie 38-40mm.

My point isn't that this is a great bike and we should all go buy two. It's that the current carbon gravel bike segment is kind of silly (though, also kind of awesome) as a whole, and this is a natural progression.

The frame is basically an aero U.P.

It really shouldn’t be too big of a surprise to see a bike come out of the new 3T after Gerard Vroomen joined René Wiertz at the head of the company last year. Vroomen’s hand shaped innovative bike designs at both Cervélo and Open, and we clearly see some influence of that design progression in this new Exploro frame under the 3T brand.

So when will we see 1.5 steerers come back? Seems like the front end of so many bikes look out of balance these days. There are already 35mm diameter bars/stems starting to gain traction. Got to increase the aero in someway...right?

I would suggest 3T redesign this frame for rim brakes. Result is an aero frame with clearances for wide tires. It's what many of us 50-something roadies, who pretend to be still sort of fast, secretly want. Screw gravel, I'd ride it on the road all day.

Swapping between 650b and 700c wheels is a main selling point of the bike. With caliper brakes you'd have to swap brakes to swap wheels at best, and with cantilevers it would be flat out impossible.

Using the bike exclusively on the road, I would have no reason to swap to 650b wheels. It's my redesign suggestion, you don't have to buy the frame

What caught my eye were the 650b compatible clearances.

Same. The idea of fitting a 650bx2.0 tire in a tight, light and snappy frame is cool. I recall of the ride of 650x40s on my snappy cx bike and think this one sounds even more fatter fun-er.

The aero stuff is comparatively unexciting.
