Kind of an older article (9-15) but I just ran across it and found it fascinating.

I've totally run across these on ebay and figured it must be counterfeit and that nobody would fall for that but.....

Anyone been a victim?

Great article but all of the pop up and video ads almost make it unreadable.

I thought I bought a counterfeit Ritchey stem on eBay because the machined emblem on the faceplate was not machined to bare metal but was black like the rest of the stem, and the logo was missing some stripes present on their typical offerings. I contacted Ritchey and they confirmed it was a Ritchey stem for the OEM market. If it was counterfeit I wouldn't have used it.

My rules for eBay: nothing carbon, nothing from the Far East.

Not name branded stuff, anyway.
