Hello All.

Hope you can help me out here....

I am curious to understand why some companies design their male saddles with a relatively narrow cut-out, compared to other companies who design relatively wider cut-outs.

A good example for the narrower saddle cut-out is the Specialised S-Works Toupe.

A good example for the wider saddle cut-out is the Selle SMP Composit.

Both at the high end and both designed for male riders.

Apologise for entering your personal spaces here guys, but aren't our scrotums wider and bulkier than the narrow saddle cut-out design?

Therefore, wouldn't our scrotums get pinched and hurt a lot when perched on these narrow cut-out saddles?

Why design narrow cut-outs into male dedicated saddles that cannot accommodate our nuts?

Those saddles are designed around different posture. The Toupe is designed for riders with little pelvic rotation. The SMP is made to be rolled into. A good comparison would be the SMP with the Romin or Power which both have much larger cut outs.

Also, the cut out inst for your nuts, its for your perineum.

Thanks Guys.

nate - What are some typical scenarios for little pelvis rotation?

I have just googled "perineurium" - amazing bit of kit down there :-)

Endurance fits, hip and/or hamstring issues reducing mobility, natural spinal curve, etc.

If you can posture well on a Toupe then there isn't anything wrong with that. I know guys who are very fast, and have very good fits, that use Toupes.

I was mainly speaking in comparison to the SMP.

Thans Nate.

So, the narrow cut-out is designed for riders who do not move their perineurium much form side to side?

no. the rotation of which we speak is fore-aft. some folks have more flexibility and can truly rotate their hips more foreward, whereas others cannot. there's no right or wrong, there's just what your body does.

regarding side-to-side movement of your perineum *across* the saddle...if that's happening in a meaningful way, your saddle is too high. nobody's perineum should be doing that!

fwiw...i think those green lines are bogus...the red ones i added show a more realistic comparison of hip-angle between these 2:

This would be a significant amount of forward pelvic rotation: http://img.20mn.fr/Yg0_At9ITkqlpbuWno5bfg/2048x1536-fit_belge-tom-boonen-paves-tour-flandres-1er-avril-2012-belgique.jpg

I switched from the toupe to the power. I love it. Narrow became a problem for me.

I'm pretty sure my next band will be named Perineurium and the first album called "Pelvic Rotation."
