Had a rare chance to hear Randy Newman last night. Just the man and a Steinway. He wrote a good part of the sound track of the last forty years, and I want to highly recommend catching one of his shows. Really, really good.

'Good Old Boys' is one of my favorite albums of all time. He gets sort of stereotyped often for his novelty songs, but he is one gifted songwriter, IMO.

I saw Randy in '74 or '75 when he was touring with his Good Old Boys album, what a show, what an album. You have to really listen--the lyrics are so important, to fully appreciate the man and his music.

I have seen Randy live twice, both times he was amazing! Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in 2010 and the Stern Grove Music Festival 2015; both shows were free, but I would pay big money to hear/ see him play.

Heavily recommend him to everyone. Especially all the people who have written off as a cornball due to projects such as Toy Story, Monsters Inc, ect... Randy Newman has a great solo career, his first 7 studio albums are radical!! Clever, cynical, rock 'n roll, Randy Newman has style!

Saw him once front the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and do the songs of Pixar. It was a wonderful show, even if my date snarked on it the whole evening.
