When this bike was new the paint was textured, with almost a soft-to-the-touch feel. It was very nice. Over the years it got a little tacky and has built up a film of tacky grime. It's literally sticky to the touch. The grime scrapes away easily with fingernail, but underneath is still tacky. Assuming I take the time to scrape away the film, is there some treatment short of re-painting that will make the finish more resistant to this type of thing? Also am curious about what the paint actually was/is. I seem to recall it being "powder"-something, though not powdercoat. I am guessing that it broke down chemically over the years. Or maybe it electrostatically combines with the dirt it attracts, like tubular glue.

That thing is like rubber, fondriest had the same type of paint, is like plastic dip.

Tough finish but turns out really bad after a few years.

I think they called it "soft" something or other.
