OK, i've got a meeting in rochester and am going to spend a day riding around Canandaigua lake. i've spent some time up in the finger lakes before, but looking for a 50 - 70 mike route. gps file would be awesome, but i can live with old fashioned directions. i'd like to see some beautiful roads that i wouldnt just find on my own. all the finger lakes threads are old.

anyone make a suggestion? blacktop and groomed dirt are OK with me.

You could try a private message to DBRK who knows ALL the roads in that area. If he has time to meet with you I highly recommend that you do so. Great guy with a fabulous bike collection.

So many great options! I lived in Canandaigua for four years. The area around Canandaigua is my favorite place to ride in upstate NY. Enjoy!

The less-traveled county and town roads are quieter, but even the main state roads (21, 64, 245,364) aren't too busy. The shoulders are generally wide and in good shape. If you want hills, give the Bopple and Gannett Hill Rd. a try...

Boom. Riding with Douglas was amazing. A guru and a mensch.

Whatever route you decide to do, make sure it includes an ascent of Bopple Hill. After all, you only live once.

Oh yes. Do this. It is a good climb. The graveyard at the top is where all those that dismounted and died of shame are buried.

I've only ever done the 44 mile circumnavigation of the lake before, which is a nice ride.

If you need lunch/dinner in the roc to replenish your calories from your ride, eat at one of my friend's restaurants:

Swillburger: Beers/Burgs/Video Games: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-playhouse-swillburger-rochester-2?search_key=76920

Owl House: Cocktails/Beers/Good Food: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-owl-house-rochester?search_key=56994

Or you could always hit Dino BBQ
