JUst got my first Brooks saddle, B-17 Honey tan with copper rails.

Absolutely beautiful.

I have read Brooks' instructions on Proofide and breaking in, but does anyone have some magic or super secret methods for breaking in the leather they might want to share????

Thanks loads!

"...boil it in a pan of water with a large rock. When the rock gets soft, you mount it on the seatpost and throw away the saddle."

No! No! Don't do anything but rub this beauty down with Proofide. And not too much and not too often! Comfort is all in the set up. Of course, the saddles do get more comfortable as you ride them but trying to expedite this will almost certainly ruin it.

Make sure the rear of the saddle is _flat_, which naturally leads to the nose looking slightly tilted up. This creates the hammock for your perineum and puts the sit bones on the rear.

Properly set up the saddle should be comfortable immediately.

p.s. otherwise, take fiamme's advice...

light coating of Proof Hide top and bottom, buff top with soft rag, ride it. The nose has to be up slightly to keep you from sliding forward. It should be comfy right away and it will get a little better with use. Small changes in tilt make inordinately big changes in comfort.

Not only nose up or down, but left or right as well, depending on how you, ah, dress.
