Robert Förstemann, he of the quads that know no bounds, faces off against some world class powerlifters. I got exhausted just watching.

OK I got a little bored watching it so I skipped to the last minute and a half and wow the cyclist was runner up...not to shabby. He absolutely looked like a pro at this activity.

What I find is interesting is the guy with probably (definitely?) the largest aerobic conditioning got 2nd....but also that the guy with the highest raw max squat ultimately won.

He didn't look like a cyclist... i was expecting a 6 foot 150 lb dude.

Yeah, not exactly your skinny tour rider. Track sprinter?

My guess is that he spends a lot of time doing squats for training. I'm moving in that direction, being pushed by my PT. My quads are a joke.

He didn't get those legs on the bike...

It makes sense. The winner was lifting much less than his max, relative to the others. The cyclist is a sprinter NOT an endurance (road/tour) rider. Still an impressive showing. Best athletes always show through.

I was surprised at how dense the cyclist was - 210 lbs I think.

Awesome as a one time power lifter those guy don't get the respect they deserve outside the sport.
The cyclist was an animal. He seemed to have the bar a little higher than most of the power lifters which somewhat limits the power you can generate. Hard to say though.

So the winner who beat the next-closest by more than 10% is Russian?

yea, that makes sense given the recent news about state-sponsored doping.

Am I the only one seeing the humor of thinking the Russians have a leg up on cyclist when it comes to doping???

+1. It seems like "cyclist" is too broad of a term. He is in a bunch of Youtube videos showing his crazy big legs. How about "Power squatter who also rides track."
