View Full Version : Bibs/Jerseys you like

I am replacing my Voler Black label bibs and jersey and my Pactimo as well. My new bike is not black nor black and red and I want to be color coordinated and all

I actually have no issues with the quality of the Voler Black label. They have nice chamois and are constructed well. I just would like different color.

What do you folks like that is not hugely expensive. I am looking at a set of eleven veto as I can choose my colors and I do have a soft spot for wool.
I will buy a few sets so what else should I look at?

Word on the street is that Brandt-Sorenson bibs, they come with an extra pocket to carry cow plasma.

And if you take one of Thorfinn Sasquatch's KOMs Nick will personally come and apply your chamois cream.

I had to . . . . #sorrynotsorry

NO NO NO ...you got it ALL wrong ... it's the jersey's that have a hidden pocket for the plasma ... NOT the bibs!
Jeez ... some guys just don't know ... Sheesh ...

^none of those qualify as "not hugely expensive" when the comparison data point is Voler.

Primal used to make some totally awesome jerseys, but haven't seen them around lately.

Cima Coppi is another one to look at for wool.

I generally cheap out with jerseys. It is a much less functional piece of kit compared to bibs. I have a bunch of craft, Pearl izumi and a few other brands.

Bibs, I'd try the new rapha core line. I have one pair of mid-range assos. They are nice enough, but I don't see what the deification is about.

Assos s5 bibs are ~ 100$ at the outlet. Ten bucks more for the s7 on ribble. Hard to beat that value.

What do you folks like that is not hugely expensive.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: The best value in bib shorts I've come across are the Performance brand. Not their bottom-of-the-line model, nor their top-of-the-line model, but something near the top...might be called "Elite"? ...and still less than $100. Great fit, comfy chamois, no gaudy logos (other than the fact that it says "Performance" somewhere on it), and they've outlasted premium bibs by Assos and Pearl Izumi that I've owned.

Plus I get a kick out of proudly wearing them to group rides with all my Rapha-wearing friends.

I really like Sugoi shorts. Best I ever wore. Usually get them on E Bay for about $75 when they have a year end clearance. $130 or so in LBS.

Going to also try some aerotechdesign.com Elite shorts when they go on sale for about $49. A sleeper company few seem to know about.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: The best value in bib shorts I've come across are the Performance brand. (...)

+1. Performance bibs rock.

I used to wear Castelli, but when Castelli changed their designs and became uncomfortable for me I had to find a replacement. I tried every pair of bibs in the very well stocked flagship Performance store in Santa Monica (Pearl Izumi, Louis Garneau, Assos, Hincapie, Craft, Nalini, to name a few). My budget was anywhere from zero to $500 a pair, and pick the cheapest that works. The Performace bibs were the most comfortable, regardless of price. I think I paid $60 bucks a pair. The longest I've spent on the bike is 6 hours, and they work fine the entire time.

Since you also asked about jerseys, Castelli jerseys still work for me. Cool, comfy, fine.

Also looking and agree that Performance bibs are worth the cost.

I stumbled across these and they have positive reviews. Any feedback from this group?

For less expensive bibs, the Pearl Izumi fit me pretty nicely. If you watch Amamzon, you can often find the Elite bibs for about $65. I picked up a few, before I got sucked into the Rapha vortex.

I have four 100+ ride seasons on a pair of rapha classic and the chamois is not shot, the fabric is not see-through and still look and feel great.

I am not advocating you buy Rapha, but there is something to spending more and getting a better longer lasting product.

And, regarding rapha, they just had a 20% bib sale. Maybe they would do that for you if you called - that is the time to buy.

I remember shaking the first time I spent $40 on pearl izumi shorts...and if you would have told me years later I would be wearing bibs costing 8x that I would have thought you were nuts.

Capo is another choice although their prices have floated upwards.

The high end nirvana? Q36.5 and Catella and Assos

Castelli bibs. The lower end ones work just fine for me.

I mostly wear wool jerseys and like Woolistic the best, though I have some others. Torm is nice if you are OK with Sportwool.

FWIW, I once (years ago) tried Assos bibs and they were the single worst piece of cycling clothing I've ever had the misfortune to own. The moral of the story; a higher price doesn't always mean it's "better".

Favorite bibs are the Rapha classic mainly because of the fabric and the chamois. I have a couple of pairs of the Assos S5 mille and they are also nice, I just prefer the softer fabric of the Rapha.

I am a 190 pounder with a 44 chest and 35 waist. Finding jerseys that fit me the way I prefer has always been a challenge. I like the fit and durability of the Twin Six standard, the fit and pockets of the Torm T2, and the lightweight fabric and fit of the Panace jerseys, the fabric, and pockets and fit of a Rapha Trade Team jersey. I bought a Rapha lightweight jersey that is a bit tight on me, but I am loosing some inches in the tight spots, so I hope to shrink into that for summer riding. When an XL fits me in the chest and waist it is usually too long. I have had a couple jerseys tailored when I liked the material and shoulder fit, but it otherwise did not fit. Cost about $20.

Lately I really like Gore bibs. I have one pair of 2.0 and 3 pairs of 3.0. They are very inexpensive-- like ~$80.00. The Hincapies were ok, although a lil long in the inseam and tall in the waist for me (waist fit OK). The Craft were very well made and I liked them. Trouble was: the waist fit fine, but seemed quite narrow thru the hips. I gave away one pair of Craft brand new in the bag after I wore the one pair a few times and decided they were just too tight in the hips. They're OK for trainer use or for short rides under 20 miles. YMMV.

I've been experimenting. I go through this phase where I feel like the Rapha Classics that I have been wearing for the past 7 years (5 pair bought all at the same time and still going strong) are just too expensive to buy. So, I've looked around and tried others. The problem for me is that the Rapha bibs fit so good and I love the material. It's a much softer bib short, less compressive than the others and the bib straps don't roll up and cut into my shoulders. I'm 6'2" 170# so it's hard to find some that fit right in the legs and that aren't too short in the shoulders. So, I'm just going to pay the price and get the shorts that work.

It was accurate. I emailed with them because I measure out to be a medium in everything except height (I am taller). They were responsive and helpful. Went with medium (am 6'2").

I will say that Catella was very very helpful. His jersey was my #1 choice but they were out of my size at the time.
