Hey everyone, I'm thinking of buying this frame set. Its a two color, a chartreuse looking frame with partial red on the stays and the fork. It's a lugged frame with straight chainstays. Trying to figure out what it my be.
Thanks
Tim

Nova Special or Nova Special X?
Pull the seatpost and reach a straightened coathanger down towards the BB, and feel around the inside wall of the seat tube -- if you can feel the ribs that tells you it's SLX.

We're frames that size still slx? I have a nice nova special x with slx, but it's a 54cm.

Looks like the Coors Light paint scheme without the decals.

Yes that's what it looks like. Is it possible it's an early Colorado?

Couple of things stand out to me. I've never seen the raised serial numbers before coupled with an additional set of stamped numbers. The extra bridge between the chainstays looks round. Must be specific to that era of bb lug.

That's what I thought when I looked at it. Doesn't the serial # start with C xx E where xx is frame size? The paint looks like the Coors light scheme...
Although, I'm guessing late '70s/early 80s by the cable routing, which would make it too early for a Coors light. So maybe it is a Club racer repainted with a later paint scheme?

Maybe those extra numbers are from the bottom bracket manufacturer?--Angry Scientist says the early serials are straight numbers only:

Give Kirk a shout he's very knowledgeable regarding Serottas and very helpful.

If I'm reading the serial number correctly, it's 91133. That makes it a 1989 frame. The raised numbers were cast into the shell by the company that made it and have nothing to do with Serotta.
It looks to have constant diameter tubes, so that rules out a Colorado and makes it likely a Nova Special. Could be a Phinney. Top tube / seat tube lengths would tell. The 1985 catalog states that all Novas above 58 cm were constructed of SP rather than SL
Nova Special X was all SLX up to 57 cm. 58 cm frames got an SPX down tube. 60 cm and above were all SPX.

I spoke with Dave Kirk this afternoon and he thinks it a nova or a nova special. So what exactly is the difference in the two.
