A friend of mine has an older Madone with a BB90 bottom bracket. It started to click and the Trek dealer installed V2 bearings that are, apparently, slightly larger and supposedly fix the problem. However, the click is back and he's looking for a solution that doesn't entail a warranty claim. Is there an aftermarket product that might correct the problem?

Loctite?

Google seems to recommend that Loctite 609 or 638 be used for retaining stupid pressfit bearings in the bb shell. F1 recommends 609 for gaps up to 0.13 mm, 638 for gaps up to 0.25 mm. In the VN link, which is for Campy UT into BB90, their tech rep says also Loctite 7649 primer should be used whereas the F1 doc says Loctite 7471. I think the primer recommended depends on what material the bb cups are made of?

All of this only reiterates the point that I never want to buy a frame where a pressfit bb is the only option.

Maybe one of those BB cups that have a threaded sleeve in the middle??

It was so simple, keep english or italian threaded bb shell and everybody happy.

Just out of curiosity have you two pulled, cleaned, and re-greased the current bearings?
