Found 'em in a box last night. Vittoria, wooden soles. Bought them in Boulder in 1985. Still have the red bag they came in.

May motivate me to install the old campy pedals/cages for a loop!

Certain to be older than this out there.

I have some lace ups that I "adapted", similar era, 1985 or 1986. The straps came after I started using the pedals. The wood was convenient, I could use thumbtacks to anchor the straps. I used them as regular cleated shoes first (you can see where I used the nails to anchor the cleat extra securely).

My first shoes were the ubiquitous beginner shoe, the Detto Pietro Art 74. I tossed those.

Aerolite pedals are still around, although I think they're pretty optimistic about pricing. If they sold their pedals for $100 a set I think they'd make some serious inroads into the racing community. They do need a 3 hole cleat so there wouldn't be bizarre cleat adaptation strategies required.
