My apartment building is redoing the bike storage room (we need storage for approximately 60 bikes). Anyone have any recommendations/experiences or tales to tell as far as designing or implementing a new bike parking/storage system for a semi-limited access (residents with a key) bike storage room that needs to work for a broad range of bikes (lots of kids bikes, hybrids, etc. as well as some high zoot road and mountain bikes)?

Wondering if anyone has ideas on storage ideas, particularly given that this is a system that will likely stay in place for at least a decade and needs to be somewhat future proof (I am just thinking about when the first fat bike shows up in the building its wheels do not fit in a conventional bike tray style hanger.

Thanks in advance.

We have a section of our mud room set aside for bikes. We have locking sliding doors (you could do a cage etc.) and use Gladiator cladding on the walls. This allows for movable bike hooks (hanging from wheels, except for one bike with carbon wheels). You could additionally have eyelets for locks, and I would suggest a camera assuming it is common area.

The beauty of this system is you can change it as needs change, and they have several different accessories for things like kayaks, other sports gear, etc.

It's this stuff we use:

Been very solid and reliable over the last 4 years, and I have re-configured it a dozen times.

Those look good. Thanks.

In some respects, however, I worry that the pivoting feature would be bad in that some inconsiderate soul may wildly swing their bike against others.

I'd worry about that in any place where people store bikes together.
