Sorry if I missed this discussion already, but was wondering if the group had any recent experiences purchasing from Europe since the new import duty law passed.

Am I correct in reading that as long as the order is under $800 USD, there are no import duties to be paid upon arrival in the US?

I purchased an item this weekend to find out it was sent by the dreaded DHL and am worried that they will still attempt to collect fees before delivery. Has anyone had this happen since March?

If its under 800 you should not be taxed, but that doesn't mean DHL will not ask his part for taking the stuff out of customs, this one you might pay.

Oh, I was unaware that DHL was separating these fees. I only had to deal with them once before and assumed that the fee was simply the duties owed.. was naive to the fact that this was more of a handling fee. That makes me even more icky feeling about them.

(I found that by searching this forum but due to the subject line you probably would have never found it - one more reason not to be cute with subject lines)

just got a group last week via Merlin and no fees, so far (crosses fingers). it was over $800 for the group but the total was even higher. it was also sent via UPS. not sure if this helps you...?

I've used both Merlin and Ribble pre-law change and never was charged. I think it's the Royal mail -> USPS/UPS that saved you before the change. I assume this arrangement is working the same now.
