My Sidis are showing some wear and I plan to retire them for winter riding with thicker socks. Lace up shoes (Speedplay compatible) for late Spring to early Fall when I wear lighter socks seem like they would work for me. I wear a 44 and have a D size width (about 4"). However, I do like a higher volume toe box, so that may limit my choices.

I have seen the Dromarti Race shoes in person and they look nice, but maybe they are a bit warm for the heat of summer, but I could get past that. The Vittoria 76 is ventilated and looks nice as does the new S-Works Sub6 lace up. The Giro ACC is supposed to have a roomier toe box than the SLX, but local shops only carry the SLX. I can try on the S-Works and and Giro SLX this weekend, but those are the only ones I have found in local shops.

Any thoughts about lace-ups with a bit roomier toe box that are Speedily compatible?

I looked at those, very nice but they list the width as 9.7cm or about 3.89 inches. Probably a bit too narrow for me.

Kid pal, at first I thought this is really neat, someone finally made this into reality and then I looked over the DIY instructions...

I believe I should receive this certificate after I am done with it.

Giro SLX is hands down the most comfy shoe I've ridden to date... I'm interested in those Quoc shoes but wondering if the sole is stiff enough for heavy duty road riding. They look good, but there's no mention of the sole design and stiffness.

Follow-up: I tried on the Giro ACC and they were nice enough, but felt just a tad snug, but I am sure they would have been fine after some rides. Also tried on the Specialized Sub6 and that fit well, nice toe box room and an overall light shoe. I could not find a Vittoria 1976 local to me, so no opportunity to try that. I asked a few questions via email about the Dromarti Race shoe and they were very responsive. I was just about to pull the trigger on those when I came across a sale on the Bontrager Classique and I ended up buying those. They have very nice toe box room and with proper lacing are snug in the heal and the carbon sole is very stiff. I have not switched my cleats yet for a ride, but I am sure they will be fine.
