South Dakota tatanka MTB ride-- anyone done it?

Have a buddy interested in this ride in July but think it may be too tough and too soon after my Achilles surgery in Jan. Anyone done the course?

Have not done that event but rode some of the trails around Custer State park.
Maybe the Centennial trail? Anyway the wind was blowing super strong and temps near 100 degrees. Epic to say the least.
