Post them if you have them.

I arrived late enough on Saturday to miss out on most of the festivities, so I can't contribute any pics of that. So, on to the ride.....

Even though I once had a '79ish Masi GC, I'm not really into Eroica (my 42-23 days are long gone), but the route looks awesome

And clipless pedals! Ahh, I'm sure Wes gave the guy a break. What, he won some sort of bike race, right?

Cool pics. Thanks for sharing.

I'd do one of these on my old Masi if I could ride clipless.

clipless allowed or just pedal with cage ?

clipless allowed or just pedal with cage ?From the regulations (http://www.eroicacalifornia.com/regulation): "b) pedals should be with toe clips and straps or, for older bikes, as the original pedals; quick release, clip-less pedals are not allowed."

Not sure what the words "as the original pedals" mean. But for all those who say that they have bad knees and have to use clipless pedals, surely they could also use platform pedals like MKS touring, with sneakers (and with or without toe clips), and be within the regulations.

it means that if you had Cinelli death pedals, you could use them

We are going on about his cables and pedals?

The real question is what bike is he riding. Serotta? Slawta? Hampsten?

???

How about a video of the the 87 mile coastal route? I mounted a GoPro to the bike and took a photo every two seconds and combined them into a video with cheesy music. Enjoy.

Andy Hampsten was riding with aero brake cables?

I spoke with Andy before the ride and he said he is riding the bike he won the Giro on and that it has been hanging in a bike shop since the end of that race. I'll give him a pass.

Amen to that.

I'll probably never participate in an eroica unless my asshole buddy sells me back my old cannondale so superbe pro. No wait, even it had hidden cables so I'll probably never rode in an eroica event.

it means that if you had Cinelli death pedals, you could use themThey used to specifically mention those as allowed in the Italian regulations but IIRC they removed them last year.

Great vid! How did the old rig hold up on some of those coastal climbs - and descents for that matter?!

My buddy and I pretty much broke every rule for a pre bike event. The night before we drank way too much beer (BarrelHouse beer from Paso Robles is yummy ),we decided to ride the the 78 mile version instead of the short one, we modified my bike to accept a 15-32 Dura Ace 7400 6 speed freewheel which entailed changing the derailleur cage to a long one courtesy of Soma, adding a new chain, removing that chain and adding a link and not even testing it before the ride, and not getting much sleep. The bike worked seamlessly. I was happy as a clam with a 42-32 up those hills. My legs on the other hand didn't fare as well as the Pinarello.

I've gotta get in on this next year. Lots of time to find an appropriate bike.

Can't believe how cool it is that Andy Hampsten rides that bike at L'Eroica. Wow.

Very cool pics thx! That's my Ciocc and my buddy's grey Botecchia at the second stop pic.

Fun time. Nice Sunday stroll. We spent more time joking around on the ride than actual hard core riding.

I can't quite tell, but it doesn't look like the Mavic neutral support bikes were "Eroica compliant"

Thanks for all the pictures.

“I needed a light and trusty bike for the 1988 Giro, so I went to John Slawta at Landshark, who built bikes for the Levi’s team that I was on in the early 1980s,” said Hampsten. “I used this bike for the Giro that year, and had another one made by Landshark for the Tour. I used both bikes and another one from the team supplier for the remainder of the year. I managed to buy one of the other bikes and keep my two custom bikes from ’88.”He rode the same bike that he won the Giro on in L'Eroica California.
